Got married a month ago - anyone got any questions?

Ours were a bit different to the norm as our photographer used film instead of digital.

We met up with the photographer just under three weeks after the wedding (during the week after we got back from honeymoon) and she gave us a box with a print of every photo (around 450). :)

She also put low-res versions on a website so that family could look to choose any they wanted printed. I'm happily picking out a selection from the prints to go in our albums, and we'll probably get two or three enlarged by her to frame.

I've seen some nightmare stories on other forums of people waiting months - it never occurred to me before the wedding that it could ever be an issue. I didn't ask our photographer how long it would take - if I did it again I definitely would! Luckily ours was very quick. :)

Aww That is really good, my sisters has been taking 2 years now, and still nothing, he says its coming from New Zealand which I know sometimes it takes longer but I doubt that long.

    Hi Sarah

I wonder if you can help me? How many fittings did you have and how close to the wedding and how far apart were each appointments?

    Thanks

Hey Cara, I had two fittings. Wedding was on 11th June.

The first was on 10th April, two months before the wedding. I had lost two stone since ordering the dress and was at my target weight by this date so went for the fitting. Obviously from this point on you can't change your size or you'll have to re-order alterations.

The second was on 8th May, so a month beforehand. At that one, I tried it on and the alterations were perfect so I didn't need anything else doing. I also picked a veil out at this fitting.

I picked the dress up two weeks before the wedding. The shop were surprised - most people pick it up a day or two before! I had nightmare visions of the shop burning down if I was picking it up this close - I just wanted it home. It had to live at my mum's as they need to hang with the train out if there is one so they don't get crumpled. My brother made a tall hanging frame and it took up most of her spare room. :rotfl:

Thanks for that Sarah....I'm thinking my thoughts might not work. Was thinking as it comes in next week, have the fitting on 3rd sept, another one on 24th sept and then pick it up the week of the wedding e.g. 6th Oct. I think that might be too close then!

Thanks for your help, at least it gives me a good idea!

How does it feel to be a Mrs? I truly cannot wait!!

Your timescale will be fine if the alterations are done correctly after the first fitting. I think your gap between fittings 1 and 2 looks fine (check with your shop their timescale for alterations).

I liked having a few weeks between the second fitting and the pick-up, just in case any further alterations were needed. The shop will tell you that's unnecessary but it gave me peace of mind. :)

It does feel really nice to be a Mrs. Well, it feels wonderful to be married to my hubby. I'm not used to people saying Mrs Allen yet (and I probably need to do something about my username on here!). I did have a real downer after the honeymoon though. The wedding was just amazing - it really was the happiest day of my life. I wasn't at all stressed on the day, I was just beaming all day long! Because I enjoyed it so much, I miss it. I keep thinking 'that was my wedding day and I never get it again'! Which is stupid - it should be about the marriage, not the day. But it's like the down after any big party you've been planning, and this is the biggest!

I sent you a pm, but not sure if you got it?
I wanted to know where you got your cake from?

    Sorry Sarah, another question...

When did you / what sort of time did you "cut the cake"?

I've got to fill our our videographer's details and I hadn't thought about when this will happen. This is our schedule:

    1pm - Church Ceremony
2.30 pm - Canape reception and photos
3pm - arrival of bride and groom
    4.30 - chinese tea ceremony
    5pm - Wedding breakfast
    7.30 - Evening guests arrive
8pm - First dance - we're having two sisters sing at our wedding for an hour

9pm - cut the cake and throw the bouquet??

    9.15pm - Disco / Buffet

Actually now I've written that down...i've answered my own question!

The venue will need a good amount of time to plate the cake, so I'd check with them if you can cut it that late.

We did the cake cutting immediately following the speech (we only had one speech), at about 7:30. It was put out at 8:30. We didn't bother with a buffet as we had no additional evening guests.

    Our day went:

    3:30 Ceremony then drinks
    5:15 Receiving line
    5:30 Meal
    7:30 Speech/cake cutting
    8:00 First dance
    8:30 Cake put out

    Hope that helps...

We're cutting our cake after the speeches aswell, it was the venue that suggested it was done that way because it takes a while for them to cut it up.
My friend did hers at the start of her evening reception before the first dance so it could be whisked away quickly for cutting!
