Apologies if this is a bit of a dumb question.

I have a mobile phone contract with O2 - Simplicity contract (Just voice and text ).

I want to be able to get email (hotmail) from my phone so I’m thinking of upgrading my phone. I think I will need to change my contract as well. Before I go to O2 I would like to understand what it is I should be asking for if that makes sense. ie do I need contract that includes DATA to do any sort of web access for accessing my hotmail account and does that access depend on the type of phone that I get.

O2 should do you a data bolt-on to your current contract for a fiver but it may be worth looking at other options. GiffGaff are worth a look, too, as they are offering free unlimited internet until the 1st of October and they piggyback on the O2 network so you should get the same coverage.
