So I really like this house...

But the drive to work I have now is easy peasy and I can get the bus and be in the centre of Manchester in 15mins (I live in Didsbury at the moment - think posh Manchester - yes, it exists)

If I was to get this house in Stockport my drive to work would be impossibly slow up the A6 so would have to get the train and have all the issues associated with trains (poor people, people that smell etc etc) ;)

But the house is perfect for what I am after, it needs a bit of work and could have value added to it and I would be there for a number of years I suspect.

Offers around £135k, is that code for above £135k. I think it's worth maybe £125k after some research and even then that's a max.

Worth a cheeky offer of £120k? or is that too big a drop?

As I am new to house buying, can anyone see anything to worry them just in the pictures? I know of the odd situation with the garage by the way!

And as I am an established member, have a link!!

No, it's code for "offers expected £120-125" - plenty of people will start 10% under asking price, not cheeky at all.

I've got friends who commute from Davenport station into the centre of Manchester and find the commute OK so that's unlikely to be a problem and Davenport's quite nice.
Make an offer of £125k if that's what you want to pay - you can always increase it if it gets turned down and you still want it.

What sort of house do you live in now? Didsbury has quite a unique feel to it. If you spend a lot of time socialising there then you'll find Stockport really different. Go check the area out properly.

Then do the journey to work from Stockport. The train is ok when it's running ok - it's a very short journey from Stockport to Manchester. I'd never suggest getting the 192 too though you will die of boredom somewhere before Levenshulme.

The house looks nothing special. I would be wary of such an open frontage on an estate. Visit on Friday evenings to see what the local youth are up too.

Do you know the area at all ? the reason im asking is (and im sorry if i offend anyone, thats not my intention) its just a few roads down from adswood, which is a large manchester overspill council estate which always used to be rather rough (no buses went there after dark rough). I dont know if its still the same but just a thought.

Im not suggesting its not worth looking at but id check the area out, the commute wouldent be a hassle as others have siad the train station is 5 mins away and the train would take 10/15 mins max into manchester.

Which will last longer - the job or the house? Personally I'd hate a crappy commute, but I also wouldn;t want to miss out on the right house. If you think you might change jobs in the near future then go for it but if not I'd think long and hard about sitting on smelly trains for hours and getting home too late and too tired to appreciate your lovely new house.

Unless I can magic £100,000 cash out of my bottom I can't afford buy here in Didsbury :rotfl:

    Thanks for the tips.

I've been twice since then (probably been reported as a prowler tbh!) and it wasn't great so I have written it off as a no. :(

    Ah well, keep on looking!

Davenport is ok if you stay at the cale green end, otherwise I'd personally stay clear.

You say you live in Didsbury, have you thought about cheadle? It's only a mile away and is still classed as stockport so you get a lot more for your money.

I live there at the moment and would love to stay but personal circumstances mean I have to move.

    Good luck in your search.
