You are clearly having a really hard time Cbc. I am going to find your diary and catch up. I've "seen you around" of course on other threads. You sound so worried and I think that can be so damaging to health. Try to take some time to relaax and do something for you.
    Take care.

Thank you, Verbatim, that's really sweet of you:T. I know your advice is sound and I'm ashamed with myself that I can't seem to take the excellent advice you, and everyone else who has been so kind to me, has given:o

By the way, I don't have a diary of my own, I just hijack other people's:eek:

Oh CBC, I know exactly where you are coming from. There have been a couple of times where I really should have asked SC for a month off but I, like you couldn't bring myself to miss a payment. Originally, I planned to increase my payments regularly to be able to pay off the debt quickly but I have learned to be patient. I want the debt gone but I also want to be able to live a little. I don't go out much, don't have holidays and don't spend on luxuries but I do try to have a treat now and then. I decided that I would keep the payment to the level it is now which resulted in my DMP taking 6 1/2 years to pay back. Originally it was 11 years plus but once I paid off my car finance this shaved off 4 years.

I try continually to get a decent emergency fund behind me and have set a target of £1000 but I never quite get there as there is always something I have to find money for. If you need to use your EF then you can always try again and just remember, it's not going on a credit card!

In hindsight, adding a month or two onto the end of your DMP won't be so bad in the bigger scheme of things and if it brings you some comfort and relieves the stress you are under, then it is worthwhile.

You should pat yourself on the back for your achievements so far rather than feel you are failing (which you certainly are not). Think back to where you were in the beginning and I'm sure you will see just how far you have come;)

I found around the half way point of my DMP that it felt as though it would never end and I was sick of having to scrimp and scrap all the time so I set myself achievable milestones along the way. These help me to remain positive and I feel as though I am getting somewhere each time I reach one (however small).

Feel free to hijack my diary anytime, it's good to have you along:)

Take care and look after what is best for you;)

That explains why I've failed to find your diary. I have tried!
Giving advice is easy but following our own or other people's is what's hard!

  • This has turned into another loooong month, I'm stretching out the last of my salary and pay day is on Monday.

Car is in for it's MOT today and I am sitting here with everything crossed that it passes:o

OH is continually complaining about the lack of money and telling me how badly done to he is:mad: I keep saying this but I'm sure he doesn't think before the words come out of his mouth. Today he is particularly grumpy and says he is sick of living in poverty...my answer to this would be to tell him to go and find a job but I know that's not going to happen. Anyway, I don't think of myself in poverty, I have a good job, all my bills are paid and I have my health. What we don't have are any luxuries and there are many people far worse off than us. I am adopting my usual attitude and completely ignoring him:p

My sister has also been annoying this month, she likes to play games of one-upmanship or "keep up with the jones's" and she has gone into overdrive with this recently. I haven't told any of my family about our debt woes so it's been quite difficult this month to avoid the subject of money. She's just bought a new car and wonders why I keep driving a 10 year old heap. She's also bought a new house, got a payrise, going on holiday etc. etc. She's one of those people that never has a blip in their lives and everything comes so easy. I don't feel resentful and I'm happy for her but I do wish she would stop going on about all the things she has:o

Another payment to SC is looming so that will cheer me up:cool:

Sorry for being glum, I just feel that some people drag me down sometimes:mad:

    Take care all

Fantastic news on the MOT! Yay! Sorry about your sister, I do wonder if people who feel the need to share about things they buy etc are doing so as its how they feel valued? Like your comment about OH feeling in poverty but you feeling that's not the case. I love your outlook and think you are an inspiration!

Thank you Jodles, the MOT was a relief to be honest, my emergency fund has taken a bit of a battering recently:(

My sister has some strange ideas and status means everything to her which I find quite annoying. She makes her mind up about a person before even giving them a chance and getting to know them. She wants to constantly brag about what she has and I won't enter into this competition. We are very different people and even more so now after my experience of being on a DMP (I have never shared this with her). It's just been something I could do without recently as this is the worst period of the year for us but...it's almost Spring and things should improve soon.

I try to keep a positive outlook and look at what I do have rather than what I haven't. This works for me, I'm not materialistic, I would rather have my health and that of my family than the latest "must have" piece of kit:)

    Have a great weekend
