We have a Baxi Duo Tec Combi Boiler which is 2 years out of warranty and have had a fan failure which requires replacement. Question - is there any protection either from Sale of Goods act or other similar or do we simply accept the failure of the part down to wear and tear?

I wouldn't imagine you have any recourse. You chose a boiler with only a 2 year warranty. You could have gone with a more expensive (and reliable) boiler with a 5 year warranty.
Fans are a component that fails in boilers (some more than others) because it's exposed to extreme stress. Other components most liable to failure are secondary heat exchangers, diverter valves and air pressure switches.0 -
You would just have to accept the failure and get it sorted unfortunately, you couldn't get a car with a 3 year warranty and then complain when a compnent failed in the 4th!
Some Gas Engineering companies offer free quotes before work is done, and companies like British Gas offer fixed price repairs so you know exactly what you'll pay.0 -
I think a reconditioned exchange fan should be £45 + VAT from here, if they have one. Cheaper than new.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Boiler which is 2 years out of warranty
So, one year plus two is three years old.Question - is there any protection either from Sale of Goods act or other similar or do we simply accept the failure of the part down to wear and tear?
If you have examples of any item more than three years old that you did not buy extended warranty for being repaired for free, I would love to hear about it.0
