What I might do is once money starts going into the account (this coming Friday if Payroll pull their finger out and pay my money into it) is give it a try at the local Tesco's petrol station.
It's the only place I use that I could conceivably run into problems with a full auth card. I don't use trains and if I did I'd buy a ticket from the station, not on the train.
I'll report back in a week or two with this one.
Even though you can't buy a ticket using the machines, you can queue up at the ticket office to buy one.
I also hope the card you have will work at the petrol station. I haven't used that card to pay for petrol. If I did, I would have told you.0 -
I've only ever used Pay@Pump once and it took £1 from my account at the time and then the other £24 came out of my account a few days later. TBH I prefer going into the shop to pay anyway, no that I go to Tesco's that often because it's out of the way.
I may give it a go with the Barclays card but I'll definitely have a back up card at the ready :TRemember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
FYI
I just went to the local Barclays cash machine to change my PIN to something better than the one they gave me and the machine recognised the card as "Connect Debit" so I think for some reason they are now slowly dropping the word "Connect" after 25 years.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -

When you buy stuff, the receipt will also say "Connect debit".
Don't know why they are dropping the word "Connect" (i.e. their brand name for the debit card).0 -

Presumably it's to make it simpler for the customers.
If I opened an account there and they said that I'd get a 'Connect' card, then I wouldn't have a clue what that meant (i.e. ATM card or debit card?).
If they told me that I'd get a Visa Debit card, then that would make a lot more sense.0 -
I've got the new design card starting 4659 on my staff account and that doesn't have the word Connect either any more.0

Also, I've noticed in a shop where normally there is a floor limit and any purchases I make do not come off my balance straight away, that with the new design card it comes off my balance straight away. I don't know if it's the card or if it is a coincidence and the shop is now getting all payments authorised straight away. Will have to try it in Boots or M&S and see what happens because purchases there usually don't come off my balance straight away.0
