    Cough.

So they can charge what they like once you have booked.

Have you just cut up your cards - ie, you could get a new one just to be used for this purpose - or have you actually closed your accounts?

Big companies run by bean counters are always going to insist on a credit card, little local companies run by garages can be much more flexible (and often cheaper too),

The downside is that you have to make your first arrangement when you get there rather than before you leave home

Car booked with Malaga car hire, arrived at Malaga airport, mini bus was waiting for us, drove us to rental company (nisa cars), we were charged exactly what was on the invoice, paid cash, left a fuel deposit of 30 Euros and DID NOT NEED A CREDIT CARD. We returned the car and got our deposit back in full. Great service, great company for anyone who does not have a credit card and the car cost us £211 for 10 days. Hope this helps someone :)

What they meant by the above (which the woman explained to me) was that you don't get the exact price as stated on the web site, it may vary, you then get an invoice after filling in all your details (took about 20 mins), we were actually charged the price quoted on the web site.
