It's STILL tough and not getting better - so how are we coping?

Dare I say it but I think it can only do GOOD that benefits are being limited, I do sympathise with those who didnt ask for large families though (yes triplets and quads are seldom asked for).
Surely they would be dealt with seperatly as they are so rare, can they really limit for something beyoned your control?
Oh wait.......forgot who we were dealing with for a minute, common sense doesn't count for the gov't :mad:0 -
Annie56 - what a horrible situation in which to find yourself regarding your ex, and for the innocent employees in his garage. It certainly seems as if he's had a mid life crisis with a vengeance, and I hope you're able to sort things out without having to fund any of the costs yourself. Blonde floozie doesn't sound as if she's made much of a catch, and you are well off out of it. It will be a shame if you have to move again just as you've found your allotment, but I guess earning a living and being able to be financially independent is more important. Fingers crossed you get the result you want.0

then he informs me that hes going Bankrupt when he comes back.
though have to hold on till I find out what my financial position is if he does go Bankrupt, I might have to be paying for his daftness and stupidity and my ignorance in trusting him.

Do post on the BR forum. How much equity is there in the hosue? Get three valuations this week.
You own half the equity in the house and this is protected in bankruptcy. However, if you signed the secured loan jointly, then the whole of that sum becomes your responsibility if OH's assets are insufficent.
Do you have part-ownership of the company? If so, it might be worth getting in this week and keeping it afloat.
If OH has been engaging in deprivation of assets, the OR will ask for them to be returned AND ex will get a Bankruptcy restriction Order, so he cannot get credit for years rather then 1 year. The OR also hands out BRO/BRUs for gambling. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I am back from my holiday and can't even begin to catch up here! Came back to worrying news, DH's company is government funded and apparently they're "under review" by the department providing the funding. Nothing is happening as yet but we'll see what comes of it. He's already been made redundant twice in the last 4 years, really can't handle it happening again and we can't afford to live on just my wages.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Currently awaiting the outcome of a PPI claim which may bring forward my DFD, fingers and toes crossed!0 -

£26k is the total that benefits are capped at not necessarily what some are claiming. In your £10k are you including CTC for your five children and housing and council tax benefits as the figure seems very low for the number of children you have.
have a read of Martin's article http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/benefits-check0 -
According to the report I read, this will only affect 50,000 families based on current payments.
Since the LHA is being cut to a maximum of £400 next April, some of those will be closer to the limit before this rule is implemented. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
The child benefit cuts won't affect us as we're well below the income limit plus DD will more than likely have finished 6th form before they bring the cuts in. What is worrying me is the talk of scrapping the university fee cap, they were saying on the radio last night that some courses may cost up to £16k a year!
There's no way we can fund DD through university and the thought that she may leave there with up to £50k of debt fills me with horror. And that's just for the fees let alone accommodation, living expenses etc.
The BMA have said that medical students could have debts of up to £100k by the time they qualify!
I can see university being only for the rich soon, those who don't have parents who can fund them will just not be able to go.

Some more update....cant remember if i have done it yet....20 week scan went ok (a half hour wait on a full bladder didnt exactly thrill me) its a BOY i knew it would be but have the proof now :j
Found a load of smock summery dresses at the bottom of my wardrobe so am living in those, leggings and a long sleeved top underneath, looking very boho chic for a baby beached whale (bump appears to have finally arrived this week)
Have also found a way to satisfy my chip shop craving, farmfoods sell powdered chip shop curry sauce for £1, makes 9 servings....im in such a happy place right now!0 -

More bleeding scare mongering.
They are basically saying they will take the cap off, probably for students starting after 2012.
And that the rise will be gradual. However, as I understand it, they will only be allowed to charge higher fees if the money goes into a central pot that contributes towards the costs for low income students.
students on very low incomes already get fee reductions and non-repayable grants from the Government and bigger grants from their university.
However the sort of family that earns the sort of money that the average London reporter is on will be hit by higher fees, as they will not get grants, just loans, and they will be aiming for the sort of university that goes for high fees like theb Russell Group. There are several hundred thousands university students and only 40,000 go to Russell group universities.
Unfortunately that will perpetuate the Oxbridge clique that already runs this country but....If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
