It's STILL tough and not getting better - so how are we coping?

Capping housing benefit could well have a ripple effect on house prices because a lot of buy to let landlords will find it's not economic any more and will be trying to sell in a declining market. But the ones who are left will have to reduce rents to what the benefit will cover. That should help everyone who needs to rent as it will level out across the rental market as a wholeIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

There are a fewfamilies of 10 children or more getting £40,000+ in benefits. This would be an in excess of £60k before tax salary. How many people earn that? It's no wonder the country is broke.
Having so many children without the means to support them is truly irresponsible. I remember reading an article where one woman had 12 children with the whole family on benefits saying 'no one was going to tell her how many children she should have' I guess the chancellor has done just that.
What can't continue ends.0 -
Yep that lady can have as many children as wants - but SHE will have to support them! I agree with this particular proposal - perhaps the problems with overcrowding, lack of social housing etc which are particularly evident in the South East with dissipate as the population spreads more evenly over the whole country... Or maybe we'll have some kind of Dickensian slum situation and child poverty will rocket?
I used to know a lady who had 8 kids - we met at a baby group and she lived near me. I don't see her any more. I bet she's fuming today...Skint but happy with my lovely family

There is no need for child povery, we do have an adequate support mechanism.
I think on £26k a year it isn't going to be doorsteps of bread and dripping and a tin bath.
I do think it will cause a bit of a stir though.0 -
No I know, I suppose I was thinking of the person who posted about the astronomical price of housing down in London and wondering how much people would have left. Up here I'm sure people would cope - might have to get a slightly smaller plasma TV though *ducks and runs for cover*

Kidcat the schools response is shocking i'd have kicked off too. Actually accusing of neglect. Totally preposterous.
I personally think council tax should be based on income rather than cutting child benefit.
Me and my partner worked out that between us, this even when i used to work we paid 50% of our income in council tax while a politician i,.e Gordon Brown paid 5% for his flat. Yet were on less than £10,000 a year so we can claim ctc, wtc and child benefit.
I'm sorry but i think its unfair for low income families to pay the same amount of council tax when some one who earns 10 time more. Utterly ridiculous.
That's just me but i do think also earning over £44,000 you don't need child benefit, its meant to be an extra to pay for a child's needs and sorry but if your earning that much then you don't need it. It's about deserving its about need.
No one deserves anything, i would quite happily reject child benefit if i didn't need it. I personally think it should go to the education and health system.
Well i am not impressed today, i got a really insulting text off a friend and quite rankly i'm taking a break from them. Can't be dealing with they nonsense.0 -
Kezlou, you might want to redefine the word friend there. Don't let it get to you, words are cheap.0
