Its is really cold here atm, and its raining constantly too, so I am taking the kids to school and getting soaked which in turn means I need to change clothes when I get home, trouble is nothing is drying here either, washing on airers all over the place from friday is still not dry, so looks like I am going to have to buy a tumble dryer to replace the broken one
was really hoping not to bother but if I cant get my washing dry any other way I am stuck, beginning to wonder if i should put heating on for an hour today to try dry some washing.

Hello :0)
I've seen those adult babygrows in Primark, I laughed my socks off at the time but on reflection they do look very warm and snuggly!
It's really mild here today so no thoughts of putting the heating on yet. I put it on for an hour last week after DS's football practice... I was frozen from having spent an hour and a half standing on a football field. I was freezing yesterday, and thought about it, but by the time I'd done all my housework and had a cup of tea I was roasting and had to open the windows.
All quiet here, still no prospect of a job any time soon, although I'm half way through what feels like my millionth application form... this job would mean relocating so I'm not 100% sure, but needs must when the devil drives!! . But, I'm having a very MSE day, just did the week's shop for under £20 and have had a lovely lunch of hm bread and hm soup.
I've promised ds that I'll make him some flapjack for his after school snack, and I also want to make some Devon Splits... which I'll eat without the traditional clotted cream for the sake of my waistline!Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
hi to all!
flowertotmum: yes poundland sells stuff for £1. sometimes they do 2 or 3 for £1 or offers like £1 each or 3 for £2. some of there stuff is brill but it helps if you have a good idea of the prices in your local area cos sometimes they are expensive. i often find that savers or wilkinsons are cheaper for some of the household cleaners or medicines especially if they are on offer! also need to check sizes of things too!!!
lambanana: have you tried covering the open window with cellophane or plastic sheeting (clear) to try to keep the warmth in or covering with a thick second hand curtain? i am buying my flat but the double-glazed doors at the front and back are a bit draughty (esp front door). can't afford to replace but do have a thick curtain at the front and that does help keep some heat in. unfortunately your landlord does have a legal obligation to keep the place repaired but often they don't and very difficult to enforce them. might be worth a chat to your local housing department at your council as in my previous flat they threatened the landlord with condemning the flat unless they did all the necessary works to their standards, which worked. unfortunately, had i followed the advice given to me by the citizen's advice, i would have been in real trouble as it was incorrect!!! (on that occasion!!!)
Annie56: mil totally got floozie's number!!! hopefully you get the job that you want in midwifery, unfortunately not the same as my profession (podiatry) where you can go out on your own. have you tried any private hospitals????
hope you're all well,
alex x0 -
annieg good luck with your job applications.
bit grey in southampton but keep getting sunny spells and is quite warm 20 degrees. so not put heating on yet but has been cold.
had a massive fight with the council as i had landlord-controlled heating and it doesn't go on til october but have had it disconnected!!! they say will not get the money paid for the first 4 months before disconnected even though had no heating cos not on. therefore they've had £480 for nothing!!!!!
argggggghhhhh!!!!!

Hi everyone,
I am a long time lurker who has been reading threads from this forum for what feels like an age. So today I decided to register and post my very first post on here as you all seem like very friendly people.
I am mum to 3 dds who for the most part are great but at times can be a bit trying.
We had a very shakey start to this year as on Christmas eve last year oh was made redundant until July of this year when he managed to find employment. Things are still a bit tough for us though as we are paying off debts and oh is not in a great job.
well thats me.
going back to hide in the corner now .0 -

Thanks wagglessmells we rent through a letting agent and they're pretty slow when it comes to repairs stating they need to speak to the landlord first then there's usually some reason why they can't get in touch with the landlord and the repair takes weeks...I do wonder what exactly the landlord is paying them for!! They did try to fix the window at the back but didn't do a great job and it's still a bit open, to be honest the only way I really believe they could fix that pathetic extension is by knocking it down and starting again it was so badly built. Our house is full of badly done DIY, the landlord bought it from whoever had it before and "renovated" it which really only meant putting in new carpets and painting the walls magnolia  when we moved in though we were so desperate as our previous neighbours were so awful that we just snapped it up as it all looked ok. Oh well, we'll just nag until they fix things now because financially we're stuck here!
I'm with the people whose washing wont dry, I really don't want to put the heating on at all but we don't have a tumble dryer and some things are taking so long to dry that they are starting to smell a big funny. I also hate having it all over the house as it just looks so messy but what can you do... I am often rather tempted by the dryers at the laundrette at the end of the road!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

hello magicmum, I don't post much - just when I can sneak on at work but read every day
It was lovely here this morning but has started to rain now so I am glad I didn't hang washing out before I came to work.
we don't have the heating on yet but I can tell from the general moaning of DD1 and OH that I may have to relent but I was hoping to get to October without it.
I have been frantically knitting warm thick socks for everyone and got 100g of thermal wool at the bootsale last week for 30p so that will be a cosy pair for someone and it is a really nice colour as well.
This is a 5 week month for us and I have been a bit rash in mr T's so will be scouring around the boards for cheap meals for the next week until pay day.0
