The other day my OH signed for a package for me.. when i got in i opened it. its was some book club saying i have signed up to them. Which i had never.
(posting back tomorrow and telling em to remove me off there records)
Today i just recived a bill from readers digest. i have never had or ordered anything from them.
What the hell is going on and how can i stop it???..
it takes time and money to keep posting stuff back and phoning 0870 numbers (which i should not have to do).
i never used to get any junk mail now im getting bills and stuff..

I got an "introductory" book from a club last week. And an invoice for 99pence  Plus the usual "order 6 books in 2 years blah blah blah"
I sent them a very, very shirty email and got a reply back saying sorry, someone must have sent us a reply card from a mag with your name on (yeah, right), keep the book and we've cancelled your membership. I've printed that email out for future reference!DFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls

Here we go, finally in! This is the email I sent them:
Dear Sir/Madam
Yesterday I received a book from you as an "introductory offer" and an invoice for payment for 99p. However, I have not joined your club, I did not order this book, and I do not want this book. The letter enclosed gives my membership number as 12345678. Please cancel my membership IMMEDIATELY and send me a returns label for the book you have already wrongly sent to me, as I will not pay for this at the post office - as far as I'm concerned this has absolutely nothing to do with me. Furthermore I would like to know where you obtained my details from, as I have never been on your website and have never seen any leaflets. I have no interest in the mystery and thriller club. The letter is even made out to Mr PeachPickle - quite clearly that is incorrect. DO NOT send me any further books.
I look forward to a fast response,
PeachPickle
And this is the email I got back the next day:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your e-mail.
Our introductory parcels are only sent when we receive a specific request for them. An application for membership was received bearing your address, but apparently without your permission. Please retain the item as a complimentary gift from us.
In the meantime we have removed this account from our records.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this matter has caused you.
We trust that this now clarifies the matter for you.
Regards,

My Mum had the same thing. Introductory price of some cheap fiction - 99p RRP £14.99 (!!!!!!). It was for sale in Waterstones for £4.99! I called for her (because she was too scared) and I was told that someone would have provided her details for membership. When I argued that it was absurd that someone else was able to open a membership account for me (I was pretending to be my Mum) without my knowledge, I was told that they would close the account and I could keep the book as a gesture of good will. How cheeky is that - goodwill, she didn't ask for the book in the first place, let alone need their "goodwill".
In hindsight an email would be better because she doesn't actually have any proof that the account was closed. Your details may have been sold on or something, an unfortunate problem with all these surveys and competitions, etc on the internet.Total Debt November 2016 =£9,660.52

I got sent books by Reader's Digest once and got books from a book club I hadn't joined and it turned out it had to do with an internet survey I'd filled in where I'd ticked some option about what my interests were and what kind of books I liked (no Reader's Digest weren't the kind specified). From memory they send you the first load of books more or less unsolicited and if you don't send them back and indicate you aren't interested pretty well right away they bill you (and send you letters threatening debt collection if you don't pay up quickly). I saw them off but only after a few stiff letters. It was one of those internet surveys that are less about getting opinions and more about sounding you out to see what offers/schemes they can try to get you involved with.0
