hi everyone, hopeing there is someone out there who can give me some advice!
ive got a patio door measuring 2metres high, width 2.4 metres and I need some curtains as cheap as possible!
Im not proud and ive even had a quick look on ebay, but no-one is selling much at the moment.
ive considered making the curtains and went into my local mill store where suitable material started from £4.99-£15.00 per metre, but Im having a mental block on, how much material I will need, also I was'nt sure how wide the material was on the roll.......this is all new to me! I do have a sewing machine so its not completely out of the question to make them but I could do with some tips please!
The other thing I thought of was to buy to large pairs of ready made curtains size 90x90, they had some in the bargain bucket for £25 a pair, then I could sew them together. still came out of the shop with metres/inches/cms whirling around in my head and i thought 'blimey-dunno what to do!!' :rotfl:heeelllppp!!!!

we bought ours in the sale at dunelms. MIL altered them and sewed them together.

2 metres = 200 cm or 79 inches
2.4 metres = 240cm or 95 inches
write these down in a notebook or on a piece of paper and take it with you when you shop, the sa should be able to help. Another cheap idea is to buy a couple of king sized flat sheets, about £5 each in Asda, Matalan etc, and thread the curtain pole through the hem (you just have to unstich the ends first)

Just to add that when you do find a suitable pair of curtains the sheets can do as linings. In fact I buy them - usually from charity shops - for just that purpose. Lighter ones will do for downstairs but the darker the better for bedrooms0

Bought some from B&Q last night, 228 x 228cm. Reduced from £100 to £20, so one of the best pairs they had. Some were starting from a fiver. TJ Hughes are also cheap for curtains.0

The most usual width for fabric on the roll is 54". A typical curtain is made twice the width you want, then gathered up up with the curtain tape. So for your 2.4m width window, you'd want two curtains 2.4m wide.
Roughly speaking, you'd need twice the width of the fabric roll for each curtain, so four drops of 2m = 8m fabric. Then you have to add on hems and pattern match. And make sure your measurement goes from the level of the curtain rail, not just from the top of the window.0 -
Here's a cheap tip from me if you don't mind a little bit of sewing; buy two single (check on the package the dimensions, you might need doubles) bed throws/bedspreads, you know the sort of thing in woven heavy cotton, and buy heading tape (pencil pleat) which you stitch on. I've made several pairs of curtains this way over the years, I can find a double bed throw for around £15 so a huge pair of curtains is going to cost you about £35 plus the pole/brackets or track. I've also bought cheap flannel sheets to use as lining. I love Dunelm Mill I think you can't go wrong!0

bought some really nice ones in the IKEA sale for £2.99! they look really nice - good job I bought 3 spare packs. they are a cream colour with tab tops and ties. You would never think they were that cheap. there must be more than £2.99s worth of material in them for starters.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0
