Can I order a specific landline number from BT?

Is it possible?

I have tried phoning a landline number where I live eg (01202) 444444 and the landline number is dead/not in use. This is not the real number, just similar.

Could I acquire this number from BT or would I have to take one that is allocated? A number like this would be handy for business and it seems a shame if its dead, I would pay a premium to use or acquire it.

You used to be able to do this, but probably it is beyond BT to do such a thing now.

Is the number you want in a valid number range ? 'golden numbers' like 444444, 222222 etc. are valuable to taxi firms etc..so if its a genuine number and not already allocated it would be strange..., as its usually the sort of thing a business would want, you could try ringing bt business sales, and asking if its available, but only after finding out if its within a BT number range first.

I don't suppose anyone from BT uses this forum?

If anyone that works for BT could PM me it would be appreciated just to find out whether a previously used business number that is no longer in use can be ordered. It definitely has a dead tone when I try and dial it so its definitely no longer in use.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you go to the bottom of the main forum page and expand the list of current active users, there's usually one of the BT reps on here. Just click on the name.

On a side note, one of my work colleagues moves house today into a new area. He sorted out his phone yesterday with BT and was offer 0*** 220000 as his home number.

That sounds like a taxi firm's number being recycled.

If the number you want was used by a business within the last 2 years then you wont be able to have it unless you get the previous owner of the business who had the number to write to BT (Openreach not BT retail) and tell them its ok for you to have the number.

Golden numbers are easily available from BT, along with numerous companies online. We've used these guys before: http://www.planet-numbers.co.uk/numbers/local-area/
  • Hi,

Been trying to find a memorable or Gold Number as Vodaphone Onet Express Service only offers 0203 numbers (and no choice), and you get what you are given.

The link bove and everyone I can find only RENTS or DIVERTS, but I jut want a number as Vodaphone can't supply them.

Can anyone help, with where I could buy a good business 0207 number for Vodaphone Onet service to import in (and not pay transfer or rental charges once I have the number.

Phew (1st post here, please be gentle and helpful).
