We have just bought a Panasonic DMR-BS750 and would like to add some surround sound speakers to it, but I do realise that they will need to be Bluray compatible. Can anyone recommend some that will connect up to this as the only ones I have found were £750.
Thanks.

Why does the Audio need to be 'Blu-ray compatible' ???
From an online review;
"The most notable rear connections are the HDMI and Ethernet, but there's no built-in audio decoder and hence no multichannel analogue audio outputs. "
"The DMR-BS750 doesn't fall down on the audio front, either. Its high-quality sound components do a fine job with stereo CDs and MP3/LPCM audio from the hard disk, and it can output DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD as a bitstream or convert them into PCM.
This means you can get immaculate multichannel sound using an HDMI-equipped amplifier, although the provision of only one HDMI could prove problematic. "
Looks to me as though you need an amplification and speaker system, where the amplifier can accept either HDMI or Optical digital input, and where the amplifier has a suitable decoder to generate the surround channels from the digital bitstream output from the DVD player. If it had analogue audio outputs, you'd just need a multichannel amp without the decoder......
The last pic link at this page http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/tag/panasonic shows the 850 with conventional L/R stereo outputs along with a single co-axial and single optical output for digital audio out - the diff between 850 and 750 appears to be purely HDD size, so can we assume the config to be the same? Other online pics of the 750 suggest so.0 -
Now that sounds complicated!
Ok, the manual says optical or coaxial output. But the man in the Panasonic part of Currys said it needed specific speakers to be Bluray compatible.Too many children, too little time!!!

I fear the man in Currys is talking a pile of ***
If anyone can correct me......
Does the back of your 750 look the same as the pic of the 850 that I linked to above?
Also, what other equipment do you have already? Just TV and Blu-Ray player? Do you want to use the same audio system that we're talking about here as a music system when you're not watching TV? If so, this may have some bearing on what you choose.0 -
Which systems did you find at £750?0

Yes it's the same as the picture. We have a Panasonic Freesat TV and this new player, don't think we are bothered about using it for cd's. Thanks for all this.
Oh sorry, nearly forgot, it was OH looking at system, not sure which but imagine it was Panasonic.Too many children, too little time!!!

I fear you are correct.
What he may have been alluding to is that you need a decoder which supports HD Audio (the £300 Onkyo receiver/decoder/speaker package I pointed to above does) to get the best sound quality from your blu-ray player - but that has nothing at all to do with the speakers themselves!0 -
I did think he probably was, he told OH he needed a £35 lead and he actually got to the checkout as he rang me, so obviously I made him put it back! Told him I would get advice from here as always.Too many children, too little time!!!

If you don't have an HDMI cable, you will need one to view the high-def content of blu-rays.
If you want 5.1 surround, you will need, given your system (TV + blu-ray player), a separate surround sound amp and then the speakers.
An idea of your budget will help if you want further advice on this!
Also, would you want big speakers or small speakers?
Can give personal opinion on all these items if you'd like...Friendly greeting!0
