One important note - what YOU see on Google is different from what I see for the same phrase, as it takes my past browsing habits into account, knowing sites I like (like MSE) so ranking those higher.

No company can guarantee page one of Google results. If any company makes that assertion, tell them you'll pay on long term results and keep your cash in your pocket.

To get on page one "naturally":

    Get your onsite SEO done.
    Add content regularly.
Install a Blog and post regularly
Write articles and distribute them to article directories.
Set up some social network links for your business, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin etc and update them regularly.
Use the news to make Press Releases about your business and issue 3 - 4 a year.
Make videos on your product / service and post to to Youtube and the top video share sites, as well as embedding on your site / blog.

That about covers the basics ...

    Good luck!

Google have a good free manual, but it doesn't cover CSS based sites such as Drupal, Joomla and such like.
Good idea about using social media. Have had the task of creating a site for a local shop, but have yet to be able to drive traffic to it.

There are plugins for most of the popular CMS systems.

Do a search for "Drupal SEO plugins" etc and you'll find some.

    Good luck!

Get a few friends to make a Google query about your site, such as product, location etc, but to also make comment about your website in the body of the text. Do it for a couple of days and you'll go to the top eventually. I use it to complain about services so if you Google "Bank" and say "w w wbank.c om is rubbish." "w w wbank.c om can't provide the service"....and so on. A few people can get any site on the top page with less effort than £99.

I don't get what you mean by 'make a comment about your website in the body of the text'

Get people to make comments about the blog posts. the more a site is "active" the better it ranks. A blog with loads of posts but no comments will rank less than one with loads of comments.

    Hope this helps

  • The top spot in 48 hours claim is rubbish. And if they ever managed to do this for something even slightly competitive it would be using very dodgy tactics and you wouldn't be there long anyway. SEOMoz do a very good (and free) beginners guide to SEO. Well worth checking out.

Totally agree. Any company guaranteeing any kind of search result position is a con - no one can guarantee that.
