Well its a couple of days since I first posted and i'm fed up that the pain hasn't gone. I had to walk fast today as it started raining and the pain started up when I increased my pace. I've read on the web that it can take a few weeks to recover from it.

What you have is DOMS, (delayed onset muscle soreness). Its damage to your muscles which were not expecting what you did.

Once you have muscle pain, your body needs time to repair. See, stretching would have reduced and even prevented this (hence me continually banging on about the importance of stretching post workout). Thing is, once the damage is done, all you can do is wait for it to recover and that is all down to how badly the damage was done and also at what rate your body recovers from injury. The older you are or the less active you are normally, the longer it will take. It could easily take up to two weeks. Prevention is better then cure...

Also you have to remember that this exercise is fairly new to you, your using muscles which had probably been under used for quite some time being that bouncing around is not something many of us do. This combined with the not stretching as fully (there are many stretches to consider which would really help you, not just 3 or 4) you need to be patient. It will subside but it will also take time.

What you need to do is keep active, I don't mean running around like a headless chicken, I mean just walking, sitting and standing, house cleaning, that sort of stuff. Keep the circulation going so the body is better equipt to repair whats gone on. Drink plenty of water, eat as healthily as you can and rest by sleeping well at night.

However, if you notice any bruising, any swelling or feel any sharp pain then please see your doctor as it could be more then a muscle trying to repair.

    Thanks again Jennie.

Still no better today, infact its a little worse. I did however do a very very gentle bounce yesterday, more of a rocking motion really as I wanted to be as gentle as possible. I can't see how this caused it to be worse.

I've seen the error of my ways now, I just want to get better so I can exercise and start using my new found lessons such as stretching!
  • Update!

Well I still have the pain and even brisk walking hurts my back. I went to the doctors today (Booked appt last thurs, such a long wait) and the doctor says the muscles in my back are hard and tight so she thinks the pain may be from there and just radiating into my core.

So there you go. I've wasted two weeks already and I still cant start exercising. I'm now taking Diclofenac so hopefully should see improvement soon.

I've not wasted my time, i've taken the advice given here and learnt about stretching, and I am now the owner of two Shock Absorber bras!

Needless to say, I wont be rushing into things again!

Maybe try to think of it as your mind has exercised! Hope the pain killers (if thats what they are?) help you out, good for you for getting to the doctors, you must have really made some deep tears for it to hurt so bad, all I can say is that it will go away and you will be able to rebound again! (just remember to warm up first, cool down and stretch at the end). Glad its getting sorted though;)

Oh an old friend of mine rang me last week and she suggested a rebounder. She said she only does it for a few minutes each day but it has helped her loss weight and tone up. I am going to see if I can get one on freecycle.
ETA just read up on them and cheap ones can do more harm than good so will save up for a decent one.

Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.
