Very interesting subject this is! We are currently facing similar problem with our website, and wondering what other options are available out there.
I followed the links that Mark gave on his post and found them useful, thanks. I shall take a closer look at those options, as I am not entirely happy with Paypal.0 -
Hve decied to go with nochex as they are slightly cheaper than paypal, from what i understand they are less likely to refund money back to buyer/customer if they claim item not received, also a lot cheaper than worldpay etc
if anyone is interested the new site is https://www.kidzrags.co.uk0 -
Alot of people go on about paypal and their "chargeback" system. We have only come across this once and that was when we bought something from ebay and the seller didn't send the item out.
We tried to contact him numerous times and never got an answer. So we went to paypal to try and get the money back.
We filled out all the forms and paypal said the seller has x amount of time (can't remember how long) to get in touch with them with proof of posting. Shortly after this the seller sent out items.
So as I understand it paypal don't just refund the customer straight away, they give the seller a couple of weeks before any refund is issued, it certainly doesn't come a surprise! It doesn't seem as simple as many people make out.
Anyway, any customer can start a chargeback with any credit card system, not just paypal. Good customer service and communication should keep this problem to a minimum - unless you happen to deal with some real bozo!!

Paypal is c**p people can buy items and then get your money back and paypal do absolutely nothing about it (they try recoup the money from the buyer but if they have transferred it from their paypal account into their bank then there is nothing they can do and the seller is left with sod all) i would avoid them like the plague, you have been warned.0

So how does this happen so easily? As I stated in the post above yours we tried to get our money back from paypal and we would have had to wait 3 or 4 weeks. It certaily wasn't instant like a few people make out it is.0 -
Depends what you tell them as to why you want your money back. If someone mentions a scam, foreign country (nigeria, spain...) and that no contact has been made from the seller paypal get in touch very quickly indeed.0

You'd look far more professional getting a consumers credit licence (around £150 for a sole trader the last time i looked) and using visa.0

This is true but when you have just started a new business (like we have with no cash help from anybody!) it is a very very expensive route to go down.
I presume this consumer credit licence will also require a merchant account and then a company to process the transaction?0 -

Yes paypal do get in touch very quickly - they did when our seller didn't send the goods - but they don't refund money straight away, they give the seller chance to prove the goods have been sent.0 -
