Need JSA help!

Hi all
I'm currently temping for a company and have been doing so for the last two months. I was told a couple of weeks ago that I was going to be needed there for the next 6 months but received an email this morning from my boss saying that they now only need me for about 5 weeks (rather rude when my boss is sat about 8 feet away from me - telling me face to face would have been slightly more respectful!).
Anyway, does anyone know if I can put in a claim for JSA in advance? i.e. before I'm actually out of work? I am hoping to secure a job in the next 5 weeks but I know how long JSA claims can take to process and I don't want to be stuck with no money if I don't find anything.
Thanks.

I don't mean I expect to be paid JSA while I'm working by the way! :rotfl:
I just wondered if I can set the wheels in motion for when my job ends so that I'm not waiting 6 weeks with no income0 -

Hi no you cannot set the claim up in advance, when you make the claim it is asking you your situ on that same day,so even if you finished on the Monday but went back into work on Tue to sort out things for an hour or two you would not be able to claim til the Wed as the gov benefit rules would class you as employed until midnight of that day.The reason you cant claim in advance is that nobody can predict the future i.e the agency could need you for a few more days than thought & obviously it costs a lot of money to set up a claim .Also when you set your claim up the first three days are not paid as these are called waiting days .Hope this helps a little & good luck hope your not out of work too long . If you are reclaiming within 26 weeks of an old claim and provided you have no change in personal circumstances in that time you would be classed as a rapid reclaim. No waiting days and a quicker process taking and processing the claim.0

To qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance a person must be unemployed or working on average less than 16 hours a week, and have income below set amounts. Partners of people receiving income-based Jobseeker's Allowance are able to work for, on average, up to 24 hours a week, without the claimant losing entitlement.*SIGH*
