Bumping this thread because people are still posting things like "Spam reported" which stays behind when a spam post is removed and thus get associated with innocent posts.

The correct response to a spam post is to click on the Spam button if logged in as a member or the Report button if not.

If sufficient members report a post as spam it is automatically removed. If people post "Spam reported" it discourages others from reporting it and the offending post remains until a moderator gets around to acting.

Plus when people quote the spammer the spam URL is then copied and lives on, which often seems to be for the same site, is there a way to report the newuser as a spammer as they generally get to post double figures of posts before being removed

Yes - it's called the "Report" button under each post. I just copy the spammer's latest name, hit the button and put the name and reason into the report body text.
  • I've received a couple of spam PMs in the last few days and they're still in my inbox. After reading about editing ignore lists on the previous page, I thought that I'd give it a go. The senders username was a bit too much for a technothicky dyslexic like myself so I copied and pastied it into the box. The next thing that I notice is that a message appears saying that this username is not in the database. Does this mean that they have been evicted already ? The last time that this happened about a month ago, the PMs disappeared without me doing anything but this time they're still there.

I've had that when trying to ignore one or two posters - if you click on their name to get their profile the option to add them to your ignore list is there, and the same name is found successfully.
