    No, Local Loop Unbundled.
Check your exchange status on www.samknows.com

Great site ta. It says Sky is available as well as quite a few other providers. Wireless isn't available which is a bit of a pain as I use wi-fi now on my laptop.

Can I still use broadband on a laptop which I'd want to use upstairs and downstairs? and also on a desktop upstairs? I'm being really thick now aren't I?

Wi-fi in this context has nothing to do with the wi-fi on your laptop-that simply connects within your property to the wireless router, which in turn connects by wire to your phone point.
You can use ADSL broadband wirelessly on any PC or laptop which is wireless enabled (all modern laptops are), or you can add a wireless adaptor to an older PC.
Did samknows tell you if your exchange is LLU'd for Sky (do an exchange search, then look under 'LLU Operator Presence' in the r/h column). They're the suppliers you should be investigating, as they will have the best deals on your exchange.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thanks. Have had a look on the right and it says Sky/Easynet enabled as of 3/10/06. There's a few others incl. cable and wireless and orange plus o2.

This is good then? I think I'll go for Sky as then it's just the one credit check and when I had a look yesterday it appeared to me that the set up of the line was much cheaper (£39 i think) rather than £127.99.

I really appreciate your patience and help, i'm easily baffled!

OK, but as mentioned before once your line is LLU'd you are stuck with Sky for broadband, the only way out is to move your line rental back to BT on a 12m contract before you can move your broadband.
O2 is a far better broadband option (if available LLU), but they do not do line activations at present.

Thanks, i'll give that some thought then. Want to get it ordered asap as I need to work from home a fair bit so don't want to have big delays once i've moved in.
