This should not be happening in a big store like Tesco. I have never come across this anywhere else. Refusing to sell items is unbelieveable!! Especially when the item is for your child and they are crying their eyes out because they cant have the toy they were promised :eek:

Doesn't happen at Waitrose. At Christmas when stocks were low one day I got the last pack of something or other, whose label was missing. We agreed on a price at the till and it was put through as a miscellaneous item. I guess the issue is part 'computer says no' and part 'staff are not empowered to make sensible decisions'. That's why I don't shop at Tesco!

All depends on which Tesco you go to and which member of staff you get. If you get an experienced member of staff who is given a bit of give and take by managers they will put it through. If you get a new person who hasn't had that experience then the managers may come down hard on the employee. I know it isn't fair on the customer but you have to look at it from both sides.

I've had this too - I remember picking up something from the computer shelves last year, can't remember what (HDD?) but it was the last one there. No SEL but I wanted it anyway. Took it to the tills and they couldn't sell it to me because it wasn't on the system.
