Screamin' Babies - I got a call a short while ago from a very polite lady from I-SCAN about scanning snack foods.

They got my information from a survey I had filled out via Test & Vote and I was expecting them to call as at the end of the survey it said I would get a call from a representative of I-SCAN.

I should get 15,000 points from Test & Vote (will chase up as know they can be slow at giving out the points) for getting on the I-SCAN scheme.

Do you remember doing the survey?

hmmmm, i dont want to be the voice of doom here but alarm bells ring in my mind when anyone wants to install anything on my computer that tracks or keeps records of anything i do.

i like to keep my affairs private (dont worry, i dont have anything to hide hehe) and dont like my information banded around the internet.

remember the internet is not a policed environment no matter what they say and even the biggest of companies misuse the information you give them as at the end of the day....... what are you going to do when they have submitted all of your info around? the comeback on them is minute and the effort you will have to undergo to even see if theres anything you can do is massive.

also, you have to think, why are they offering you something to have it, you have something they want, and it ALWAYS comes at a price :(

Ah, i kind of understand what you mean by codescanner now (tut to me!!)

Its the same deal though, your spending habits will be transferred to credit card companies, marketing reserch you have no idea about etc etc. Tis your call :)

I'm surprised then that you go out of doors each day Sinope - no doubt you'll be well aware of how many times daily the average UK citizen is filmed on CCTV! :)

No need to attack me to get your point across edna, manners are a blessing you know.

I am perfectly aware of all the cameras, and in the nice quaint town in surrey i live in they are fortunately almost non-exsistant. There are many ways you can protect your identity in this day and age, i am borderline ocd in this respect as i just dont want companies having my information.

Its a personal preference, but there are many advantages to it. I have debts from my past that i have been able to completely get away from (fortunately as when i was a teenager i seemed to think credit was free money!) i dont get smap through my post box or email account. I have never had a sales call in my life and more importantly to me, i know my details and information are safe and in a day and age where id fraud is so prevelant i'm happy to be overcautious.

It sounds like the AC Nielsen IScan project thing. I'm doing that at the moment and have around 3000 points, and in all honesty there's nothing particularly must-have in their list for me. However, I can't help thinking there's something fishy about the whole thing. If I happen to miss uploading my details one week, I get a spooky phone call...

I did this one for a short while and they kept changing my password to sign on to the website, so i gave up, recently received a really nasty letter asking where the scanner was etc. I rung and emailed numerous times to get password they said they would email it, but never did

It doesnt work like that, its to help stores such as asda, tesco etc stock certain items and what prices people look like they would be willing to pay, i.e. if its popular or not.

Sinope, you sound nervous about it all but your details do not get sent to these people that you think they do

For goodness sake Sinope - where is that coming from? "attack" - it was a joke, lighten up please.

Now you've got me thinking you are really not ocd but OTT...but hey, from what you've already disclosed on MSE "they" will already have tracked you down, and no doubt your bin bags will be searched in due course so that the food companies can be 100% sure of which cereal you eat :D:D

NB. Please note the use of smilies - that denotes it is a light-hearted remark to someone who is over-reacting a bit - not an "attack"

I didn't check Sinope's other posts before my previous post. Now I have I am even less inclined to take him/her seriously. Check for yourselves - they're nearly all about signing up to freebies or competitions or newsletters!

Yeah - so much for worrying about companies having your information!! :)
