my mum has 1 of these, she gets a book full of barcodes which relate to shops, she scans the barcode 4 asda for example, then scans all her shopping that she just bought (like at the check out) the book has codes for things such as fruit and veg u pick and weigh ur self and also to scan if the prodcut was buy one get one free or anything like that.
is a little time consuming but each month they send her a point statemnt wiv a voucher for that amount of points (the more u scan the more u earn each month) then wen u want 2 claim u send the vouchers adding to the amount of the reward 9they send a catalogue out about every 6 months) is quite good if u got the patience over the years mu has had a deep fat frier, hoovers, irons, they even do a yeasr worth of AA or RAC subscription and holidays/sortbreaks such as rafting (but obviously rhese cost a fair bit!)
hope this all makes sense if not just pm me and i will try and explain clearer and more in depth if u want!Would you destroy something perfect in order to make it beautiful?0 -
a friend of mine did this and said it would take about 3 years to get enough points to get anything decent, I think you have to scan all snacks/drinks you have while not in the home, I could be wrong but it was a lot of hassle so she stopped within a week or so0

amie does your mum think its worth doing ive heard so many things that are bad about test and voteFree of dept Thanks Martin
:T  beers are on me0 -
It sounds like the AC Nielsen IScan project thing. I'm doing that at the moment and have around 3000 points, and in all honesty there's nothing particularly must-have in their list for me. However, I can't help thinking there's something fishy about the whole thing. If I happen to miss uploading my details one week, I get a spooky phone call...0

yeah, she doesnt always cos sometimes when they been shopping she just cant b arsed but in the front of the book there is a barcode 4 everyone in the family, so if she cant b bothered my dad scans his name in the book so they kno its him doing it
it does take a long time to get enough points 4 anything good but they been doing it for over 10 years now and its just become routine really, normally dad scans the things as mum puts them away, just like a processing line!Would you destroy something perfect in order to make it beautiful?0 -

I'm with shop and scan, have been for about a year now. Their system is very easy, you just scan all the goods you buy and download the data once a week. It doesn't take long at all. However I know my sister in law does another system, could be test and vote, I'm not sure, which is much more complicated eg weighing everything, whereas the system I do is really simple. I get 1000 points every week, sometimes more and am saving all my points to exchange for vouchers for Xmas.Total debt May 2005 £83,232

Sorry lorraine but I don't agree with the above comment. Moxie is more on the right track I feel.
The most useful rewards from TNS Shopandscan are the High Street Vouchers (from Next, WH Smith, Argos, JJB, Homebase, Debenhams, etc) - they are £10 ones and cost you 10000 points.
You should get 1000 a week for the scanning (and sometimes an occasional paper questionnaire for more points), so you can do the math!
It's not the most generous MR reward scheme, so to be blunt I don't scan everything I buy!
I just do the main supermarket runs, which is easy to do as you put it all away, and they seem to be happy with that...0 -
Just to say I think everyone is talking about two separate scanning schemes here:
http://iscan.acnielsen.co.uk/volunteer1.asp
and:
http://www.shopandscan.com/
If there are any more, please let me know!
My previous comments referred to the second scheme.0
