After all my essential bills are paid I have £80 a week. This does include my food though as sometimes I eat out a lot and therefore don't buy much at the supermarket whereas other weeks I spend the whole £80 in Mr T's if I'm stocking up or buying an odd bit of clothing.

All my weekends away/hols are budgeted for elsewhere so this just covers cinema, mag's etc.

£320 a month, how much do you have left at the end?

I rarely buy anything other than a paper and the odd pint of milk in the week so its less than a fiver a week unless I have anyones birthdays or am out to lunch or dinner .........

Padd bear - it really depends. Over the next few weeks I'll be working 100 +hrs a week and being fed at work (the joys of harvest) so I will spend very little. If anything of that £80. However, over Xmas etc it might be a bit more. I have £80 in my head as a figure but as I have built up a bit of a buffer zone from the quiet weeks it doesn't matter if I go over.

I save, I'm debt free, I overpay slightly on my mortgage so I know I have quite a lot per week but I think I can afford it. The only thing I don't have is a pension but farmers are notoriously averse to pensions!

I should also say that I live on on my own but feed by boyf 4 - 5 nights a week. We normally go out once a week and he pays for that as I pay for the food in the house. ( I don't think he eats on the nights he doesn't see me!)

Sounds like you have no tiem to spend?

I work using a computer 24/7 near enough and therefore online shoppings so easy, esp with MS grabbit's!

I guess i just want to prove to myself that i dont need to spend willy nilly just because i can? lol

  • My annual living expenses (very scary when you list the items you can think of).
These expenses are for two people (my wife and me). The mortgage costs are very high as we are paying for two houses at the moment. We haven’t been able to sell our first home yet and haven’t been able to rent it either. We are slowly decorating our new, new-build house, and we also have a baby on the way. Also – we live in NI, were it is supposed to be cheaper, but I don’t think so.

    Mortgage (£800 x 12) £9,600.00
    Food (£100 x12) £1,200.00
    Car diesel (£100x52) £5,200.00
    Pension (£200x12) £2,400.00
    House improvements (£100x12) £1,200.00
    clothes (£50x12) £600.00
    xmas, birthday/wedding gifts stag/hen parties £500.00
    Electricity £500.00
    Oil/heating £1,000.00
    House insurance £250.00
    Car insurance £300.00
    car tax £35.00
Car servicing/mot once per year £150.00
    life insurance £20.00 x12 £240.00
    Mobile phone £20.00 x12 £240.00
    Landline and internet £20.00 x12 £240.00
    New baby £1,000.00
    total per year £24,655.00

Ok – there are a lot of luxuries – but most are essential

How does this compare with everyone else in the UK?

Where we are the nearest shop/bar is about a 15 kilometer round trip so that helps.
