O2 existing customer 3 months free BB offer

Hi,

Just received an email to say, if I commit to another 12 months, I'll get 3 months free broadband off O2.

Does anyone know if there is anything I should be wary of, by way of any change of T&C's that might put me at a disadvantage, particularly any usage restriction changes as I use Sky Player quite a lot.

I've had a look through and can't see any glaring catches. Currently I'm on the home premium upto 20 meg deal (I get roughly 8), my connection is LLU.

If you are getting roughly 8MB, you could also save more by downgrading to Home Standard. There is no catch to committing to another 12 months. If the 3 months free is only for Home Premium, commit accept the three free months and then downgrade to Home Standard. But I'm sure it applies to all.

LLU uses different transmission frequencies compared to standard ADSL, so changing platform will not yield what you think.

8Mbit on LLU will drop to around 3Mbit on standard ADSL.

No because O2 LLU does not use standard ADSL.

There is no point paying for O2's premium package, if the line will only support 8Mb.

The 8Mbit broadband offered by O2 is delivered using standard ADSL over BT's network, which means the speed will drop dramatically when compared to ADSL offered using LLU.

No, you are mistaken and are simply confusing the issue of O2 Home Broadband Standard with O2 Home Broadband Access.
I would thank you to remove your posts as they will only serve to confuse all who read the thread.

    Please check before you post.

Going back to the point of the thread; There is also the option of a flat rate discount instead.

Thanks for your replies guys, I see that Access is seperate to the others on the broadband comparison page on the O2 website and is the only one with a poor 20gb allowance.

As for changing the package, I went with the premium, because I use the Mcafee security (please no this is rubbish security etc posts, every security suite has its pluses and minuses) on my pc and 2 laptops in the house.

In addition my line speed has been upped by O2 twice since signing up, so hopefully over 8 meg speed will be available to me one day.

Finally, I have no intention of leaving O2 broadband in the near future and am very happy with the service so far, so think I may as well accept their offer of 3 free months.

I must say I'm not so tempted by their phone though as it could make things awkward and possibly expensive if I wanted to change broadband providers in the future to one that needed a BT landline.

I also have a mobile contract with them, so think I have enough eggs in their basket already.

If over 8MB speeds will be available to you one day, you can upgrade then.
In effect what you are doing is spending £30 to have McAfee installed on two of your PCs. :)

Read post #8 again before committing anyway.
