Halifax Credit Card

I have a Vanquis Card at the moment with a credit limit of £2500 and a Capital One card with a credit limit of £1000 both of these are paid of fully each month. (I only got the Capital One card two months ago)

I have noticed today when I log into my Halifax account that they are offering a credit card with an approval guaranteed before 6th August. Obviously with the credit cards I have got you can see that my credit history is not perfect. My question is if I applied for the Halifax Credit Card what would my credit file look like with 3 credit cards on there?

Are the any pro's or con's for getting the Halifax Credit Card? Would a Halifax Card look better than a Vanquis Card?

Thanks in advance everyone!!

    Certainly do go for it!

It will help your credit file, as long as the total limits on all of your cards added up together are under about a third of your annual income. Any more and lenders won't like how much credit you have available to you.

Lenders can't see the company name of the account like you can, so if for example Egg did a credit check on you, they wouldn't see "Vanquis account, £2,500 limit, £100 balance, opened 01/01/2008" They'd just see "Credit Card, £2,500 limit, etc". So on that front it makes no difference.

I would personally close the Vanquis card however. A big credit limit especially for a card that carries such a bonkers interest rate. If you're being offered a Halifax card, then the Vanquis card has certainly served it's purpose.

Let us know how you get on ;)

I've just tried to apply and I've got to wait for an answer in 10 days so maybe it isn't guaranteed!

Hi, I'm new having a Halifax account and I get that card offer come up, but it isn't pre-approved. You still have to apply so a credit check etc will be done.
I'm seeing after 6 month's if I get any pre-approved offers, although not sure if Halifax does them?

Anyone had approved offers with Halifax?

Yeah they are "pre-approved" at times but usually you have to sign the form they send you and then they do the checks.

Have you made a recent application within the last 90 days preceeding the 6th of August? They will use the credit check they did on you for that, with this current card application.

They may well be using that information, but as it was turned down you didnt have to sign anything and return it did you? This time they will send it to you and ask for the return to do the final check.

No it was declined online so I didn't get the card or have to return/sign anything.
