how do I unscrew the toilet pan?

Hi

I want to replace the lino in the bathroom, the last lot slid underneath the loo and I cut all round the edges...no prob.
However in the intervening years the pan had to be changed and now its screwed solid to the floor and I cant move the old lino out either! The screws are all rusted and its quite goss...(ugghhh:eek: ). I dont remember this happenening last time... just unscrewed!

Any suggestions?

Not much other option than to unscrew those screws. You might find running a bit of WD40 down them might help free them if they are really stuck. To be fair if they are just steel screws they will simply have rusted due to the steam etc in the bathroom rather than anything more unpleasant (although that may also have contributed). If they are rusted make sure you find a screwdriver that fits properly so you don't risk chewing the heads up. When you get them out you might want to replace them with some Zinc coated ones of the same size that won't rust in future so if you have to do this again its not so horrible.

hi, go careful. we had the same problem the other day and they were so rusty that as my oh tried to remove them the base cracked. ....and now we have a very wobbly loo literally.
i would suggest that you just cut around the loo with your vinyl.
    but you may be luckier..
funny enough i only posted a thread about my loo earlier this week.

They should actually be brass screws so not sure whey that has happend anyway, this is what you do, carefully drill out the old screws (buy a new steel drill bit to do this) once you have removed the screw heads gentle and I mean gently faise the front of the pan and wedge it. Then get a hacksaw and saw off the old screws from underneath the toilet pan. go to your plumbers merchants and get four replacement brass screws with washers or protective caps.if your stuck about how I am trying to put it across let me know and I will see if I can upload a picture somewhere. its a simple job if you are carefull. The key is to have good sharp tools new hacksaw blades, decent drill bits make sure the drill bit is not too big remember you only want to take part of the screw head off.
hope this is of some use to you it helped me
