Protecting a red car
I have just bought my wide a 56 plate Fiat Grande Punto (and yes I do like her despite some of the comments on another thread
!).
Anyway, it is Ferrari Red (at least that is what I like to pretend it is) and I know just how bad red car paint pigments and how sooner or later it will start looking pink.
So I was going to polish it this weekend to try and give the paint some sort of protection. Now I am not interesting in "detailing" as I simply don't have the time, inclination or patience.
I've always used Autoglym in the past, but is this still the best polish to use? It has been SO long since I last bought polish (at least 10 years!) so I am really out of touch with the latest products.
Can anyone advise the best way of protecting my (Ferrari Red
) paintwork?

I will be interested to see what folk think is good out there.
My point would be; can you garage it (or cover it somehow)? That should provide the best protection. Not always possible or practical I know.0 -
I bought this set of 3 recently for a 2nd hand car we bought. It made an incredible difference, and will hopefully protect it.

Some polishes I've tried in the past leave white powder everywhere which I hate, this one didn't!0 -
Meguires do a 3 point system using carnubra wax- the results are very nice0

after 35 years of keeping my various cars spotlessly clean .. and mainly using autoglym ... couple of years ago i tried the shopping channel advertised .. various names..same product..
"proshine" .. showroom shine ... greased lightening .. 32oz bottle .....does car about dozen times .. cheapest price is about £17 for one bottle on ebay ... or from idealworld channel for about £25 you get that bottle and 3 small bottles of their other good car care products.
I was very sceptical about their advertising .. but it really is a superb product !! their main selling point is using it on a dirty car as "waterlesss" .. but i still can't bring myself to trying that !!.
contains carnuba wax
Dead easy to wipe on .. and few seconds or few hours later really easy to wipe off ...leaves absolutely no residue .... and use all over car .. all the black & silver areas .. brilliant on glass.
Takes no more than 15 minutes to do whole car .
Very much an "around the house" product as well . Definitely leaves a very good protective coating . which makes polishing next time even easier .
The microfibre cloths they sell as well are brilliant.
I'm a very hard person to sell to .. but i'm totally convinced with this . Got a couple of neighbours to try it and they were instantly converted as well.
In true mse style .. i bought a 4 pack via ebay .. then sold 3 to neighbours at £20 each .. profit paid for my bottle !!!0 -
that meguiars one doesnt protect very well at all
the polishing part makes it shine ..little or no protection
you then need a couple of coats of wax or sealant to do the protection part , if you can mail order a tin of collinite 476 or 845 is one of the most durable waxes there is and its not expensive
top up the wax as often as you can ...and polish once or twice a year0 -

My red car is 11 years old and it's still as red now as it would have been when it was new... except for the wing mirrors which have faded quite a bit, which is annoying. Maybe it's something to do with the plastic they're made of.
I've seen some red cars around the same age as mine that have faded terribly though. Oddly enough they seem to be all Vauxhalls.0
