Best non touch screen mobile
Its been ages since I tried to keep up with the latest phones, my last being a Samsung D500. I have been asked what is the best mobile for general use at the moment, but specifically NOT a touch screen. Apparently the person asking hates touch screens so these are a no no.
Any thoughts of a good general phone would be welcome. Thanks.

Have you looked at the Sony Erricsson Elm? This phone has some favourable reviews and cheap at around £100 for its feature set (WIFI, AGPS), etc...0

My wife has just had a Nokia 6700 Slide and she's getting on well with it. The phone also comes with free Nokia Maps.0

Never knew about those 2. I know the touch screen phones but not the other types. Will pass these on to the lady involved. Thanks for the recommendations.0

Maybe she has had a bad experience with touchscreens. She should try out some in a shop. I bet it won't be long before all phones are touchscreen.0

Thats what I told her. However, she has had plenty of touch screen phones including iphone, LG and Samsung and hated all of them.
Give it 2 years and all phones will have touch screens.0 -

I doubt that would be the case. There are still lots of people like your wife who dislike the idea of poking at the screen and would much prefer hardware keys. Some people have even trained themselves to SMS without looking at the screen using the numeric keypad. You can't do that with a touchscreen. My wife is a bit like yours. She disliked the Samsung Tocco she had for 18mths, and upgrade to the Blackberry 9700 and is much happier because of the keyboard & keyboard shortcuts, which again you can't have with a touchscreen.
If budget isn't a problem get the BB 9700...very nice phone. I think theres a new BB coming out soon too....can't remember the model.0 -
the BB Pearl 9105 is being released soon and will have a standard style keypad

I think that all she wants it for is texting, texting, texting, phone, camera, texting. Not bothered about email or internet connectivity so the Blackberry is probably out - paying for features that she will not ever use.
I think the best is the old Nokia 6810i, if only it had a camera. Now that was a phone, rugged as hell and the battery charge seemed to last forever.
Her contract with Orange is up soon. I told her to go into the shops and have a hands on feel with the dummy phones on display0 -

She sounds just like me and I am also looking for a new phone. I have the Nokia 6300 and can text really quickly on it. No use for internet or widgets  as have no idea what I would use them for. Only texts and occasional calls. My Nokia is in great condition and salesman in shop said it has never been bettered (6303i is tinny). I don't think I could be bothered with a touch screen so what do I do to upgrade (have started a new thread asking this very question).
However, I am afraid of getting left behind with the new technology and as I wont see 50 again I getting to that time of life when these things matter.
I use my laptop or netbook for internet - why on earth would I want it on my phone as well and probably costing a fortune to connect?
See....I told you I was old0
