£300 pm OUCH, maybe state what medication you need, and also say who the insurer is and how/why the claim was refused, so we might avoid them.

Glad that you are managing at present, and hope your girl's condition is controlled. Have you seen the epi angel's website?

at present she is on 3xepiphen 3x limromide and 1 1/2 keppra , twice a day, with rectal diazapam to bring her out of a fit.
We hopeing that we have got it controlled as she has only had 2 fits in the last 3 months(latest being yesterday)and before the dosage she was having them every 2 weeks.
the insurance we use is direct line and as far as i am aware its down to us not being able to claim on an illness for any longer than a year, although im pretty certain we had a life long policy rather than a yearly.

    Thank you for your response.

Couldn't find Diazepam, but for the other three drugs on the present dosage I reckon you could do for under a hundred a month (£98.40) + p+p+ prescription.
    Still very expensive but better.

Didn't Direct Line send your policy in the post, or is it all online? Wouldn't the premiums give a clue to what's covered?

My vet can give me a perscription for £16.00 and an additional 2 pound for each item. I have found some of the tablets that she needs and are working out just above half the price i am currently payin.
The keppra are for humans and are alot more expensive cheapest i can find is currently 64p a tablet which is still cheaper than my vets but im unsure if i can purchase this online with a pet perscription.

Thank you all for your great advice, help and support.

Hi, so sorry to hear about your dog. I use online pharmacies for diabetic medicine so I dont know how they would compare for your drugs but the following 2 are very cheap and reliable. I have also used the ones mentioned above and they are all good sites.

I'm not sure whether you just want to get the prices down (as we all would) or whether you actually need to & will struggle to find the money for medications.

If the latter there is a small charity called Tailwaggers Trust that may be worth contacting http://www.tailwaggersclubtrust.com/

You could also try emailing Poplar Farm Rescue Kennels & asking whether they can offer you any suggestions (this is a rescue centre which I believe has experience with a number of epileptic dogs) http://www.poplarfarmkennels.org.uk/

Thank you all for your help on this. just waiting for a few of the chemists to come back to me to see if they can offer me any better deals/prices if i buy in larger quantities and if i can get the meds from 1 rather than a few.

Thank you all so much again

We have had our dogs insured with this company for years and have never had any problems.
They are telling me that for some reason i cannot claim for any illness for any longer than a year although it was a life long policy and as the epilepsy has been diagnosed there isnt going to be any insurers that will now open a new policy with an ongoing illness.

Thanks for you help and looking into the prices mutter, really appreciate it.:j
