Hi wonder if all you money savers can help me out,My adoreable german shepard developed epilepsey around a year ago,and basically I have been done over my pet insurers  and after my policy expires in sept, i will not be covered for any off her treatments.
she is on quite a large dose and at present i am able to claim back the £300+ every month i am spending.
However come september I will be having to purchase these myself, although she is worth every penny it will be expensive.
I have been told to buy the meds online with a persciption from my vets But is there any ways in which i can possible keep these prices down or any sites etc i mite be able to use that will help me in doing so.
thanks

look at petmeds site, they have online forms to request prescriptions from your vet, who should sign them.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

I've used https://www.vetuk.co.uk for prescription meds in the past, really can't fault them and they were the cheapest by far. Have also used https://www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk but they worked out more expensive for the tablets my cat was on.0

It's a case of shopping around, have a look at this thread, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/488485 post 1 has lots of links.
I'm using petdispensary.co.uk at the moment and have found the customer service excellent. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

£300 pm OUCH, maybe state what medication you need, and also say who the insurer is and how/why the claim was refused, so we might avoid them.
Glad that you are managing at present, and hope your girl's condition is controlled. Have you seen the epi angel's website? http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/0 -

at present she is on 3xepiphen 3x limromide and 1 1/2 keppra , twice a day, with rectal diazapam to bring her out of a fit.
We hopeing that we have got it controlled as she has only had 2 fits in the last 3 months(latest being yesterday)and before the dosage she was having them every 2 weeks.
the insurance we use is direct line and as far as i am aware its down to us not being able to claim on an illness for any longer than a year, although im pretty certain we had a life long policy rather than a yearly.
Thank you for your response.

Hi Frankie firsly I am sorry to hear about your lovley girl. I cant offer any other online places as they have all been mentioned. But having read your post about your insurance policy all I can say is check out your old pilicies and read the small print. If you do have a life policy they just might be trying it on. Its worth a shot.

i have asked my vet about them signing prescriptions and they do charge for this. so may be worth while checking how much your vet charges.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

My vet can give me a perscription for £16.00 and an additional 2 pound for each item. I have found some of the tablets that she needs and are working out just above half the price i am currently payin.
The keppra are for humans and are alot more expensive cheapest i can find is currently 64p a tablet which is still cheaper than my vets but im unsure if i can purchase this online with a pet perscription.
Thank you all for your great advice, help and support.

As far as I'm aware as long as you have a vets prescription you can buy the human version of a drug from a human pharmacy. This was suggested as an option to me when I was trying to source a certain dosage of a drug for my cat that used to be over the counter in a human pharmacy but changed to prescription only.
Also, ask your vet for a repeat prescription so you don't have to pay the £16 every time. They won't give you a huge prescription as they will still need to see her for check ups and if they gave you a years worth say, then how would they know that drug was still suitable for her if they haven't examined her recently. My vet used to give me a repeat prescription that lasted 3 months.
You lodge the prescription with whichever company you order from (they need the original) and then you can order, for example, one months worth at a time and then another months worth until the repeat ends.
Alternatively they might prescribe, for example again, 90 tablets which is three months worth. VetUK used to hold the prescription and let you buy 30 one month, 30 the next and 30 the month after so you didn't have to buy them all at once. Not sure if they still do this as this was a few years ago now. I still order non-prescription stuff from them and they are very helpful so give them a ring or email if you need to ask them anything.0
