If the camera was bought for a Christmas present then it will now be over 6 months old and thus up to you to prove the fault an inherent one in order to claim under SoGA. Thus, your best bet (especially since you think it's likely to be accidental damage) is your product replacement cover. Unfortunately, as the T&Cs show you will need the receipt both for the product and it's cover policy in order to claim.
Thus, unless Argos can assist you with this, it's looks like your need to turn your place upside down to find those receipts or right the camera off and put it down to experience.0
