TV Licensing???

We're moving to our new flat this week and I am currently in the process of buying our TV license but I'm somewhat confused...

If I pay monthly (which was the plan) its £29.10 until Dec which equals £145.50 and then a full year of £12.12 a month which also equals £145.50

So that means I'm paying a full years subscription for only 5 months?

But, if I pay quarterly, its £37.62 every 3 months which equals £150.50 (£5 extra charge to do it this way)

Am I missing something or is it cheaper for me to pay quarterly?

I'm really confused as this is the first time I've seen this, last time I set this up (quite a long time ago) it was the same price every month no matter when I signed up for it.

Would appreciate any feedback as would like to get this settled by tonight

Thanks :)

If you choose monthly direct debit, they want you to get 6 months in advance, yes. Very irritating. But as you say you can get around this by paying quarterly and incurring their "small premium of £1.25 per quarter" or upfront in one go costing 145.50.

I have used the quarterly payment plan since the mid 90s. Actually thought they had done away with it for new customers?

The it works is you get your license and are paying for it in arrears.
