ESA now consider deaf or dumb applicants to be able to communicate in the workplace by writing down messages, all well and good if someone on the other side of the office is trying to tell me the place is burning down - what am I supposed to do, keep looking around to see who's writing to talk to me? Sure, I'd get the boot for sitting gawping around.

Bit of an assumption there that other people can read your writing. (I can't read joined up handwriting and the print has to be a certain size) And is it really reasonable to look for some paper and a pen whilst the fire alarm is going off?

  • Quick question after looking at those; I'm expecting an assessment soon for DLA, if asked to bend and touch my toes should I go as low as I can or as low as I can without pain? I can touch my shins but it hurts like **** so I wouldn't normally go any lower than my knees. Same with walking, I always go slow to keep the pain at bay but I can walk faster albeit in agony.

I would do what I could without pain. From what I understand, you have to do what would be normal for you and what you could do most days.

  • I quickly went through the physical and mental notes and scored over 100 points. I know it's not a competition but that's probably my highest score on anything ever!

  • Is there any sort of on line guide about how the points systems works for ESA.
I have an assessment soon and would like to be prepared.
    Thank you

If you have any concerns about benefit's the best site is on Benefit's and Work, sorry I am not allowed to put the link up as I'm a newbie, dam silly really but there you go, it's easy enough to look up thou....

Some of the Info is free but to gain full access it cost's you about £18.00 per year, MPs even talked about this website in a commons debate, politicians don't like this website because it gives very good info that the DWP would rather claimants did not know about, I have found them brilliant.

You can find out what points etc are given for certain conditions etc and what criteria etc you need to meet, they also tell you how to fill out forms correctly and all the tricks the DWP try to pull on claimants, hope that's been helpful......:o
  • The mental health points system isn't well thought out. No wonder so many genuine claiments are getting kicked off IB & onto job seekers allowance. Tis very worrying & wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't an upsurge in the suicide rate.

Always present the worst aspect. You will get no credit for anything else.

No doubt they will regard that as a good result.

Never forget that you're dealing with politicians ... creatures with no moral compass whatsoever.

And if you went to a medical, chances are they would give you 0 or 6 points.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

The guides only eplain how the descriptors are legislated.

The medicals, certainly for the mental health side, are nothing like the descriptors.

    Nothing at all.
