Where do you buy a wedding dress from?

My plan of not wearing a wedding dress was not looked upon too kindly so I'm slowly going towards wearing something more traditional (I know it's my day but my parents have decided to pay for everything )
So where would you go and get a dress from? I've looked online at high street shops and have an appointment booked at a bridal shop near me but I don't really want to spend more than £150 on it. Which seems impossible.
Thanks all

For £150 it will have to be high street or a bridal shop sale hun. There might be some mid season sales on at the minute, more likely Sept though as there are usually only two bridal collections a year. M&S, Very (online), BHS, Monsoon, Phase Eight all do bridal dresses. xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Most bridal shops have a rail of sales but you'd have to do a lot of digging, depends on what they have at the time really.
You could try outlets then you have a wider range under one roof...
Francesca do a big one in Tamworth http://www.francescabridalwear.co.uk/

Try googling for more.
If you really don't want to wear something traditional then don't! Doesn't matter who's paying it's your weddingyou could compromise and get a white dress, or a long dress, from somewhere such as Monsoon.

I would go to the bridal shop and try on all sorts of different dresses to get an idea of what kind of style suits you. Then once you know what you want, if you're comfortable buying a dress from China, you can try Milly or Landy. You can normally get a good deal going through them (although check the Landy Bridal thread for some more info about quality etc).
If you find a particular dress that you love, try ebay or websites such as preloved or sellmyweddingdress and you might be able to find a bargain...:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
you could get second hand
many women only where them for a few hours and then professionally clean them so they look brand new, try preloved or ebay(with good photos,feedback-not china based)
there are some bridal discount warehouses dotted around the country too, google near you
you could find a seamstress to make you a simple dress aswell
good luck and let us know how you get on,we love dresses:)I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
Personally I would not risk the china route through Milly/Landy. If it goes wrong, and sometimes to does, you won't have the money to get yourself something else. xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

There's no rush for a dress, the wedding isn't till January/Feb/March and I have no intention of losing that much weight between now and then
Thanks for all the support but I want my parents to enjoy my day too. I'll try to find a compromise. Now to drag myself off to dress shops0 -
I went into Monsoon the other day to try on their dresses & they are wonderful - a couple are as good as the designer ones imo, and much cheaper.
Plus if you don't want full on weddingy styles (ie no big hopped skirts & crystal bustiers) then they're ideal.
Plus trying them on there is a little less full on than the bridal dress shop exeperience.0 -
My mum is looking for one at the moment and they had some quite simple, but quite pretty ones in Debenhams (think it may only be the bigger stores though.) Think they do them online there too, so maybe worth a look. the one she was looking at was £120.00.0

I got my wedding dress in Monsoon Outlet (in Street, Somerset). It cost me £60 (in 2008) plus another £18 for a little bolero /wrap, both from their bridal range. I think most of my guests spent more on their outfits than me! Well worth a look if they've got an outlet nearby, or even just in their sale. It was a slightly A-line shape, with sequins and beads, light weight silk outer. Definitely not foofy, and it had straps, thank goodness, which so many wedding dresses don't.
I looked in the "proper" bridal shops too, but was scared off by the prices (£600 for something I'll wear once?! no thanks). I do regret now that I didn't do an afternoon trying dresses in a bridal shop, just for the sake of it, so even if you go elsewhere for your dress, or go "non-bridal", consider trying some pricey ones on, just for a giggle.0 -
