UK population to rise

In The Metro today.

"Uk population to rise by 20 million in the next 40 yrs".

Britains population will baloon by almost 20million people within 50yrs.

By 2051, britains population will stand at 78 million, up from 59 million in 2001, the report suggests.

House prices may slow down over the next decade, but surely will be shooting up after that if not enough new houses arent built.

Not unless the growth in populaton is being driven by responsible people in strong financial positions who are able to buy. Somehow I doubt that's the likely scenario.

Between 1841 (15 mill) and 1891 (27 mill) the population rose 80%

...the 33% rise this implies pales by comparison.

There was room for them then ... and less restrictive building rules. If you had a bit of land, you could build something on it I bet.

And just how many people do you think actually owned land then???
    What proportion of the population?

Or they could just be immigrants with priority housing needs in which case they will be provided with housing, money no object.

I can't see it on there website - where is the link to this "report"

That is an increase of 500k per year. The last 3 years it has been closer to 400k and looking back past that it is a lot less. The trend is pointing down at the moment. So how do they get to 500k?

If there is some logical rational and explanation for this 500k number, fair enough, but it just seems like gibberish when looked at in context of the latest ONS data.
