A win or a scam???

Hi, I have received an email that says:

You recently entered a competition to Win a free iphone/£500 Discount shopping vouchers.

We are happy to confirm that your entry has been successful.

You will need to verify your address by replying to this email with the telephone number we recently sent you in a t-mobile prepaid sim card.

Please send your reply to: henry@ibitstore.com

Regards,

Shawn Williams
Competitions manager

I have received 2 x pay as you go sim cards recently from t mobile (which I dont remember ordering).

They must have got my address from somewhere so can anyone help?

Hi - bear with me as this is the first time I have posted. I received exactly the same message today, but I haven't received any T-mobile sim cards! Tried calling the contact telephone number but, after ringing a few times, a recorded message said that either it was out of hours (open until 9pm and I was calling at 6.30pm) or all operators busy. I then sent a reply to the email, but have not had any response yet. Would appreciate knowing if anyone has heard anything from this company.

I looked on the website & it seems pretty genuine. here hope it is a win for you both. Sometimes if you scroll to the bottom of an email you can sometimes tell if its a scam by the address given (such as California..etc)
    Good luck! ;)

EDIT...I just done a search on here also & something came up in 'post your scams here' :o ...dont want to build your hopes up but have a search thru there first.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

These here are the contact details for customer support @ibitstore. I would suggest using these details first and foremost, using either method, ask them if they have run this competition, and whether or not its safe to reply to said email/phone number provided in the email.

If you email ibitstore using the email address below, then make sure to use the forward option, so that they'll get a copy of the email as well, and have a better chance of assisting you in the matter.

    Email: support@ibitstore.com
    Telephone: 0870 042 9569

EDIT: @Wingobins, that link just goes to a page detailing an iPod docking station, doesn't show whether or not they ran the competition.

Good idea though on the address part, and also its worth clicking the reply button, and seeing what email address appears in the "To;" box.

I also saw that thread appear when searching "ibitstore", but upon opening the thread, and searching it, there were no results for "ibitstore", and a "search posts only" didn't turn up any results in that thread either.

Its bleedin' awkward trying to find the legitimacy of comps these days, especially with such a vague email too.

A little tip if anybody ever gets an email like this and it shows what looks like a genuine email address. Hover your cursor over the email address in the body of the message and in the bottom left of your screen it will show you actual address that the link would take you to.

Ok, I have emailed customer support at Ibitstore and am waiting now for reply. I was straight away thinking it was scam but was confused at the fact that I have received the t mobile sim cards and they only want you to email back the number of the sim card to verify address. I am always very careful when entering comps so don't understand how
    1. I have got the sim cards so whoever already has my name and address
    2. I have got the email so they know that
    3. They only want the number of the sim card back.
Sorry if I am vague but the only spam I have ever received was that 'you are a POSSIBLE winner'. That one was so obvious.
If anyone can help, then please do, thanks
  • Hi, I received the same email all it seems to mean to me is that they are saying you successfully entered the recent competition..
Please let us know how things develop

As recyclatronix stated - they are only confirming your entry.

"We are happy to confirm that your entry has been successful."
    Thank you all who post.
