using email from overseas

Options
I have never had a mobile with interner access, but hope to upgrade soon...

I am a bit unclear about data use. I see that most providers give unlimited use in the uk but make a charge when you are overseas..

But what exactly constitutes data use... If I view an internet page am I using up my data allowance ? or do i have to be actually downloading something..?? and does sending emails from abroad cost extra ...

I know everyone has different deals but none are easy for a simple simon to understand..

I quite fancy the Blackberry bold and I would say I was a light user.. But I do spend a couple of months a year overseas in asia...
So I am trying to figure out if its cheaper to send emails or txts when I am away ...

confused....yes I am :D

    The simple answer is don't use data abroad, or more so, don't come back home and then whinge about the bill, whether sending or recieving email will use data transfer, so whilst you are away either get a local payg sim or locate and use the nearest internet cafe :beer:

    If you are a serious phone user then you have made the best first step in considering a BB

    Next is to get a O2 sim or BB on a O2 contract, then whilst abroad opt into a O2 bolt on for Worldwide data for about £30 month depending on your basic UK tarrif.

    Worldwide data for £30/month is unbeatable.

    Yes each page downloaded is chargeable and some browsers are capable of downloading full web pages of 1mb which can work out at £3 a page at £3 per mb which is common roaming data charges.

    Its about time the EU directive came in capping roaming data but that still won't help worldwide roaming.
