Roblems with freeview reception in York area

We recently moved to the York area and have been having problems with freeview reception. BBC 1 and BBC 2 are the worst although other channels can be problematic.
I have tried googling and it seems there is work ongoing at a local transmitter that could be causing this but I can't work out whether it will sort itslf out or whether we need to look at alternative methods such as satellite.
Any thoughts welcomed

Ask your nearby neighbours if they are having any similar problems, if they are not, your TV Aerial is most likely the cause of your problems.0

20+ year old narrow band antenna with equally as old water filled co-axial cable running from it? That'd be my first port of call.0
