I'm guessing I'm one of the more senior members here, so not at all up to speed on mobiles like you youngsters!:rotfl:I have a mobile, which TBH I don't use a huge amount so use PAYG(vodafone). Now like me, it's getting a bit old and I'm thinking of going for something more up to date. My sons have the all singing, all dancing iphones, £30-35 a month, but I want nothing like that! So really looking for some guidance, some advice on what to buy. I want to stay with PAYG, maybe a touch screen, and possibly something to access the net ocassionally. Is web access expensive, I thought I saw something 50p a day, what sort of download limit would that have. Lots of questions, I'd be grateful for any guidance.
Thanks

Most of the latest all singin dancin phones are designed to connect to the internet a lot - f not all the time

Without internet access they are severely limited in fact limited toi what your old phone will do !

Yes internet access in most PAYGs can be pricey so look for a phone with WIFi that connects wirelessly if you are in reach of a free hotspot eg McDonalds or a home broadband that you have permission to use

After that its a question of gow much you want to spend - (I'm guessing a £300 iphone is not what you want) and what suits you

Go down to one of your local stores and see what you like the feel of then do your research or come back here for a good price

I would look at getting an HTC device. Theyre considered to be the market leaders in touch screen mobile devices at the moment. You can probably get one of the older ones (Hero or Legend) on contract for £20 a month. Make sure to read some reviews before committing to anything.

Im not sure PAYG is really worth it. Unless you dont mind paying a lot up front for a phone you will have a lot more choice with a contract. I think there are some PAYG deals where as long as you top up x amount a month you get some internet included. But you may as well have a contract then.

Mobile internet is pretty addictive, you cant really compare an old style phone to the new ones out now. I never used my k800i much, it couldnt do much and was a pain to use. I can hardly put my Desire down.

Thanks both. I was asking here because I was looking for independent advice, rather than some salesman trying to get me to buy what he wants to sell. :j

Have a look at the Sony Elm for £100 on O2, and their Text & Web tariff (500MB per month on £10 topup). If you need a touch screen phone...LG Optimus GT540 (Android) £130 with O2 too.

And look at GiffGaff as they are quite good too.

As someone has already mentioned, check giffgaff out. They have free internet access until Oct. Calls and texts are probably the cheapest around.
