:T Hi fellow Moneysavers. Have you noticed the relaunch of the Soda Stream? Have you seen how expensive they are? Do you have one of the old models gathering dust in your attic? If you do and inform Soda Stream they will offer you a new model for only £15 minus the gas bottle and carbonaing bottles they are extra. This is a saving of £6.01 on ARGOS price. (half price offer now out of stock) I dusted mine off and emailed them for some spare parts for it and they sent me this email in reply:
Dear Angela,
Thank you for your email
Unfortunately due to reasons of health and safety we do not supply spare parts for our drinksmakers.
I have included info below about the changes in our machines and cylinders and of a recent offer which may be of interestr to you.
The 35l cylinders you have been using with your drinksmaker have been phased out and replaced with the current 60l cylinder in compliance with Euroopean market standards concerning waste and the environment.
The Gemini drinksmaker and the carbonating bottles have been out of productrion for quite some time now and also have been replaced with better designed and environmentally frendly products. The bottles now have a hermetic sealing cap which keeps drinks fresher and fizzy for longer and the plastic used in their manufacture is BPA free.
As a result of these improvements, we have been running a special upgrade offer for out exising customers who wish to continue using our products. I have attached details below.
If you wish to have the convenience of:
Echanging your cylinder less ofter
Gas cylinder/s delivered direct to your door
Pre paid labels provided to send back you empties

As a valued SodaStream customer we would like to offer you the opportunity to upgrade your dinrksmaker to one of our latest modern design models with a choice of 2 colours for a special price of £15.00
This offer does not include gas cylinders or carbonating bottles, these can be pruchased seperately.
At present the carbonating bottles retail at £6.99 each or £9.99 for a twin pack.
the new 3 thread 60ltr (425g) ctkubders are £18.99, that's £8.99 for the gas plus £10 for the User Licence fee (£10 per cylinder) which is refundable when exchanging cylinders. These cylinders provide up to 60ltr litres of sparkling water.
If you have any older type cylinders you can return any type in exchance and recieve a credit on their return.

The initial cost if the sodastream is quite high (I got mine for £29.99). But after that it's not that expensive. 60L gas refills are £8.99, which is about 7p per litre of fizzy water. The concentrates are £2.99 each, which is about 25p per litre. 31p for a fully configurable litre of pop is great value. You can mix the concentrates for even more interesting flavours. Plus you can mix with normal cordials, fruit juices or make your concoctions to add to the fizzy water. Plus for kids (young and old it's great fun - you have to try fizzy chocolate milk at least once in your life!!!)
Plus you don't have lug loads of heavy bottles of pop, then store them. Plus you reuse the bottles, so that save on plastic bottles - so there is an element of being green. And the best bit - just try fizzing a bottle of ice cold Blue Nun - cheap champers taste.
I think it's a great machine.0 -
If you have an old sodastream, sodastream will replace it for £15. They changed the thread on the gas refills so you can not longer get the big sized gas for them. however you can still get the 35L ones. This is why Sodastream will change it for you. They have changed 2 for us, for newer models, at £15 each as they changed the gas refills. Just give them a call.
I have had one for the last 4 years. I give my kids fizzy juice rather than the stuff you buy in shoips which is laden with sweeteners and e numbers. Now I can control what I give my children and they do not miss out.
For the person saying it is more expensive, what about all the 2L plastic bottles, each 60L refill would be the same as having 30 plastic PET bottles going into the recycling bin plus the fuel to get them to and from the supermarket and the space to keep them. Plus, how much of it is going to go flat before you use it and it has to be tipped down the sink or into the plants. I like the convenience of it.
I have just bought my refills from Lakeland online, unless you want coke then it's not worth buying the concentrates as there are a lot of juice flavours on the market now which work out A LOT cheaper to use. if you really want coke you can find a receipe online for homemade cola concentrate. The refill at Lakeland is £7.99 which makes it 6p a litre.
I love my machine and I'd not be without it.0 -

Fizzy juice? The combination of CO2 with the acid and fruit sugars in the juice will damage your kids' teeth faster than pretty well anything else on the market! You really ought to talk to your dentist about this. There's also a link, unfortunately, between fizzy drinks and osteoporosis in later life. I don't think you're doing your children any favours.0 -

The kids have it once a week - it won't harm them that much. My kids are the only one of their friends who have not had dental problems so it cannot be doing them that much harm.
I on the other hand have it almost every day, as I stated I would not be without it!! I use the High Juice in mine as it is gorgeous - especially cranberry and raspberry.
You can try all you like, I ain't giving up my sodastream!! :rotfl:0
