My sister didn't change her name but i was always taught in school that if you keep your maiden name it should be Ms not Mrs... ;)

A friend of mine married someone with the same surname (obviously no relation, it was just a very common surname), so she just went from Miss to Mrs. Job done!

you can wait for the passport, as long as you book your tickets in the same name as what's on the passport. I'm waiting for mine to expire before i fork out another fortune

I thought that too but in some countries it did state that if you had a different name to the one on your passport then it did cause issues....Can't remember the ins and outs but given the airlines and their meticulous detail I decided it wasn't worth the risk, plus it's nice us being a "family" :D

Though be warned for £77.50, the new passports are terrible. They whiten your picture so that a ghost looks like he's been tangoed compared to you and the new embossed thing looks like sticky back plastic and my nieces could have done a better job.

(About time that outdated tradition was outlawed)

    why?

what about people who want to change their name?

    why?

It's a symbol of ownership, and as far as I know, people aren't belongings.

It's a shame that people aren't comfortable enough with their existing identities.

I changed my name out of choice as I wanted my family to have the same name, now we have children they have the same name as both their parents. I havnt changed my identity, just my surname.

I think its wrong to force women to change their names but that everyone should have the choice.

You could have achieved the same objective by having your husband change his name, or alternatively by choosing a whole new name together.

We did discuss this, but as he was in the army and had already changed his surname it was easier for me to change mine as it had been such a pain when he did it before.

courgette I don't think anyone would bother changing their marital status if they haven't changed their name. Possibly your employer and any tax related stuff would need to know.

one thing I haven't noticed on any of these lists - your EHIC card! I am going on holiday to Spain next week and just suddenly realised that it doesn't match my passport anymore, so rang to change it - that is one of the easier ones to do as they take your word for it!

i went to spain for my honeymoon, i had a real trouble cos my BIL booked our tickets with my married name, i had a hard time proving who i was... although all my debit and credit cards matched my new name... it was like i stole someone else identity as my passport says i was Miss L D.. instead of Mrs L L.... anyway... i suited my spanish surname, with my new english surname, people think i am pretening i guess... hahaha
