Advice for renewing Vodafone contract

Hi all,
I am hoping that some of you can give me some good advice re: renewing my contract with Vodafone.
Basically, I've run over my 18 month Vodafone contract by about a year now, so I can claim an "upgrade" whenever I fancy. I'm a bit lazy about checking my bills and prefer to have the money taken automatically each month, only querying it if it seems a bit high on my bank statement. My current price plan is 125 Anytime minutes with Stop the Clock and 1,000 free texts. This costs me £25 a month. I've felt that my bills have been a bit high for ages now, usually coming out at £30-£40, and I have only just realised that this is mainly because I've been paying for "Cover Me" Insurance at £6.95-per-month (which I don't recall asking for or being told that I needed to cancel - will be speaking to customer services about this soon) , and because I've been paying full price for a mobile broadband dongle despite being offered a half price promotion (see separate thread by looking at my other posts).
I've been using my phone less and less and I am definitely a low-use customer, but I don't have a land line (living in rented accommodation and likely to move within the next year), so I need my phone and don't want to change my number. I only ever need to call a handful of people, all friends and family, and not in any great quantity. I have to make any business-related calls (re: bills and utilities etc) from my mobile, but I realise I can't help but have to pay for these on top of my line rental. I've looked through my past bills today, and I reckon I send less than 100 texts a month (200 free texts would be more than enough) and make no more than 90 minutes of calls a month (excluding business calls). "Any time, any network" is useful to me here. I don't really use enough minutes to ever benefit from the Stop the Clock utility. I would prefer not to switch to pay-as-you-go, but I would consider it if it will work out cheaper.
Can somebody suggest what I should be aiming for when bartering a new contract? I plan on being put through to Cancellations and hoping they'll do me a good-value deal. My dad pays £10 a month for his Vodafone contract, which, frankly, I think is a bit more like it for what I use. Also, can people make suggestions for which handset I should aim for? I have a Samsung phone at the moment (not sure about the make, but it was the rival for the first LG "Chocolate" phone when that first came out), so it's still working but several years old.
Thanks in advance.
Carl
