Help! I was scammed by Orange (anytime internet)

I signed up to Orange Anytime dial-up for 14.99 month due to me being temporarily back home from university. This seemed good because I could cancel it anytime because it’s a month length contract (instead of broadband 12 month which would be a waste because I’m not here the entire year). I pay out every 25th of the month. Anytime is the unlimited dial up access for a monthly fee.

I’m close to going back to university so I decided to cancel before a payment was taken on the 25th September. I rang yesterday and cancelled, however they cancelled everything! The person mentioned I could use the internet up to the 24th September which would have been my one months use from the last payment of the 25th august, but they cancelled it all and they say they cannot change it back at all. Apart from not getting my months worth, they clearly lied to me or !!!!!!ed up somewhere in their system.

I asked for a refund but they said they couldn’t get it. I also asked whether I could get my remaining 20 days that I paid for and I couldn’t

The only solution they say is to sign up with them again and pay 14.99 again or use the pay as you go. I feel scammed.

At the moment now, I’m not internet-less and accessing using pay as you go (which will add up a lot). Is there any way I could get my money back, get my 20 days of anytime? Who do I complain to and what should I do?

Thank you for any helpful replies.

Best advice is from CAB or Trading Standards.

You need to inform Orange that under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 they need to perform the contract with reasonable care and skill. If they do not resolve the isue within a reasonable time (e.g. a few hours given the nature of the contract), then you will obtain services from another supplier and will claim those costs from them. Also highlight that you expect the contract to be extended to reflect the time the service has not been available to you.

See if you can find some e-mail escalation addresses (such as to CEO).

If they don't play ball you will need to go through the courts. Ofcom is useless and the Dispute Resolution Schemes take forever.

Seperately, BT Yahoo are offering as 1 month trial for £1, and you can cancel at any time. You may want to sign up for that in the meantime (though it will reduce your damages claim).

An E-Mail to their Executive Office usually gets results.
    executive.office@orange.co.uk
  • I am on anytime with this company, £14.99 pm, however my phone bill was £615, because they gave me a pay per minute number to dial. They are not accepting responsibility and have offered £100. I have emailed ISPA and have received an acknowledgement. Try ISPA too, although its obviously not a quick fix.
