You do need to persevere with raw. The first time I gave my girls raw they threw in on the floor, picked it up, shoved it about and threw it on the floor again.
Just keep trying is my advice.

I have been trying beef the past few days and he has been given his steaks outside so I don't know if he is eating them or burying them. If he isn't eating them he must be starving by now so by my calculations should eat the meat anyway. I think he seems keener on the beef though than the pork. I think its like people on here have said and they aren't totally sure if it is ok to eat the meat.

I have known of people who have lightly cooked the meat before giving it to the dog and cooking it less and less every couple of days until the dog is eating it raw. This shouldn't be done with meat with bones in it as bones get brittle when cooked and can do damage to your dog.

I've tried our Beagle (aged 5) on raw food - she doesn't know what to do with it!

Bearing in mind this is a dog who will eat anything - and I do mean anything! - I was very surprised. I've tried her on chicken wings (they were ignored for her evening meal and breakfast) and also a marrow bone (it went off before she went near it!) so I'll keep her on the Orijen for now - mind you she's a lot better on that than she was on the Wagg she came to us with!

I'll watcth this thread with interest and see if I can find a way to get her to eat raw!

Sagaris.. have you tried cutting or dicing up raw chicken and mixing it into her regular food? It might get her used to the taste and smell of it, you could start small and then try putting a chicken wing down for her?

Ok so this morning poor Scraggy is running round half mad with an ear infection. Do you think this is related to changing his diet?

i wouldnt say so,, depending on how long he has been on raw,, it could be his body detoxing from all the nasty stuff thats in commercial pet food.. seriously raw meat n bones is the healthiest things for dogs:)

He has only been on it a week really. Poor baby looks so sorry for himself. I've put some Thornit powder in his ears and given them a massage (thank you to the person who suggested it)
Should I try some minced meat to whet his appetite? That way I could get his coconut oil back into him

Mince is good, and relished by my 2.
I wouldn't think that the ear infection is anything to do with what he's eating now, more to do with what he's eaten in the past IYKWIM.
Magic gets ear infections from time to time but she has a very narrow ear canal on one side and is prone to them, since a young pup really.

They will eat if you don't give them anything else. You'll have to throw some away for the first few days if they're not eating it but eventually they'll have to! Loki's been a week without eating when he was trying his luck at getting something tasty (usually my bacon). Most important is not to feel sorry for the dog and give it something else because you think they'll starve or something - that's how you get these people who 'can't feed them' unless they're on the table and eating off your fork!! A dog won't let itself starve but it is very good at training you to give it what it wants!!

Well minced beef with some melted coconut oil mixed in (and a hidden antihistamine tablet) went down a treat!
Scraggy has often suffered with ear infections, he even had to have 2 operations because he burst blood vessels in his ears and they ballooned and had to be drained. One op involved him having buttons (shirt buttons) stitched on either side of his ear flaps to close the ear as its hollow inside, whether his continues ear probs resulted in him being pretty much deaf as a post now its hard to say. The vet never once mentioned that the ear probs and paw biting and scratching was down to his diet, just said that some dogs are like that and I never put the two together until a groomer said so :( All these years he's been suffering and it was my fault. :(:(
I notice the past couple of days he seemed even more deaf but this infection theres brown gunk oozing out of his left ear which made me think this might be him detoxing.

Its good to be able to discuss it with others tbh.
