Ah so no more eggs for Scraggy then for a week or two!
I was wondering about frozen lamb chops etc from Iceland, would they be a good idea and does anyone feed their pooches part frozen/frozen meat?
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

I don't think I would dare try it with Scraggy at this stage, he is fussy enough as it is!
Do you find most butchers are helpful?

Most ppl who have fussy dogs find they take to BARF really well. The butchers near us said they would supply bones/scraps but it's only once a week and we're just getting into the swing of things. I think once we're into a routine I might branch out to butchers.

I am going to try my local butchers tomorrow and hope its not been ransacked by other BARF owners :D
Not quite worked out yet what I'm going to say to them but will do my best to get some meaty bones for my pooch (obviously not knuckle bones though)

Butchers are more likely to be accomodating to you if they think you will be a good customer for them i.e. buy food for human consumption too. I now just ask for meat for the dog including chicken carcasses, chicken wings and lamb necks and ribs and ask for a bag of marrow bones thrown in too.

As long as you time it well and when the shop isn't too busy you shouldn't get a negative reaction. The butcher I use prepare all their meat in the shop but I did try other butchers first and if they don't prepare the meat in-house they won't have the range of bones etc for you unless you are feeding your dog all human grade meat.

raw food is the best food ever for a dog.. the rubbish that goes into kibble and commercial pet food is frightening,, abso bad nutrition..

my dog has been raw fed ever since we got him from the rescue centre.. wouldnt ever feed anything but raw!

Kerri did you find that by feeding raw he doesnt smell 'doggy' and does his breath smell? Before I was aware that Scraggy's diet was what was causing his skin problems he used to smell awful! You just couldnt cuddle him :( Then I put him on Wainwrights and supplemented coconut oil (not sure how to do this with raw meat though) and he stopped smelling bad! And he was all cuddly :) But his breath was still bad, I'm worried now he isnt getting the oil he will go back to stinking again

I've tried our Beagle (aged 5) on raw food - she doesn't know what to do with it!

Bearing in mind this is a dog who will eat anything - and I do mean anything! - I was very surprised. I've tried her on chicken wings (they were ignored for her evening meal and breakfast) and also a marrow bone (it went off before she went near it!) so I'll keep her on the Orijen for now - mind you she's a lot better on that than she was on the Wagg she came to us with!

I'll watcth this thread with interest and see if I can find a way to get her to eat raw!
