Before MSE change it's layout i could select whether i appear offline or online...
Now it has gone back to showing me online. Is there anyway i can alter the settings to appear offline again?
Sorry if this isn't in the right forum...

I think you'll find it's not a button, it's a traffic light. A bit like a fridge light, you only know it's on when you open the door, but how do you know it's off when you close it? I lose a lot of sleep thinking about that!0

I know it's not a button. It's not a major worry or anything but i know in some threads some people do get nasty about the time people spend on here and i would rather keep myself in offline status so as to keep this more private...
and yes i knwo they can look at my posts and everything but the threads i have been on i don't really want the nastiness aimed at me...0 -
Ah, so you want to join the ranks of the MSE Stealth Stalkers, silently prowling the darkest corridors of the website, sniffing out controversy whilst remaining invisible to the rest of world.
As for the nastiness, it's only words (often misspelled) on a computer screen. It's not real life and it's not going to leap off the screen and eat you. It doesn't know who you are or where you live. It's the Care Monster - if you don't care, it doesn't exist.
So come in to the sunlight, feel the warmth on your face, and think a little more about the important things in life...
...like the fridge light!0 -

If you want to browse the forums without other people knowing you are online, then you will have to use the Log out link.
There isn't any other way, in the old or new layout.
Obviously while logged out you will not be able to view the few boards (Discussion Time, Debate House Prices & the Economy etc....) that can only be seen while logged in, and if you want to post you will have to log back in.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

That's strange as i had the option on my CP before it changed...
Oh well thanks, will log out each time, hope my log in doesn't cause problems as it did when the site did change and it couldn't log me back in...0 -

The option has never been in the UserCP as far as I know. Not as long as I've been here anyway.....
If you had it at some point, then there must have been some odd quirk in how your account was set up.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

The option was deffo there before. It was to be found under
USER CP>EDIT OPTIONS> Then check the first box which was for Invisible Mode.
Seems that the Admin has removed this from the options in the AdminCP for all usergroups. They have probably set the global options to make everyone visible too as I cannot see th eforum upgrade changing the default profiles unless the new template reset thevalues0 -
All I can say is that I have never as a normal user or BG had that option in my userCP.
Not something that I wouldn't have seen.
Are you sure it was here at MSE?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
