Speeding ticket question

If, for arguments sake, a person was driving at 80 miles an hour on a 70 miles an hour dual carriageway and spotted a Police camera van in a layby and slowed down but wasn't sure if it was quick enough....if it wasn't and they were snapped, when would the letter come through the door and how long is given to deal with it?

Btw, please don't bother replying if you cant answer the question. I'm asking a specific here...I'm not asking for opinion or how you feel about speeders or anything else, it's not a chat thread, if you just want to bump your gums, please do it elsewhere or start a thread of your own.

Sorry, don't want to be rude but it's incredibly frustrating when all you need is one question answered but the thread gets derailed by people who feel their right to moan about the topic is greater than anything else.

About 4 days to 1 week...... 30 days from receipt of letter to respond, you'll get a reminder after 3 weeks.

Indicated 80 will be fine. More likely 75 in actual speed. Lost count the number of times I've gone past a copper at 80+. Seems as long as you're under 85 and not driving like a tit, you're fine.

Can I give my opinion on excessively slow drivers? horse boxes? erratic/aggressive drivers? and road vigilantes who don't actually know the law?

If speed camera's weren't purely for money, then we'd have them in accident blackspots and outside schools, instead of on long wide dual carriageways with unnecessary speed restrictions.

If safety was a concern the Police would make themselves visible to deter crime in the first place, not hide behind wheely bins catching people who slip a few mph over the limit!

    !

    Don't forget Caravans.....

I'm sure half of those vans are only out checking Tax disks.. I've swanned past a few of them and had a nervous wait only for nothing to turn up.

Besides, you can't always see them if you are trying to send a text message at the time :cool:

nobody has said it yet, .... Will no one think of the Children???

Oh please, why don't the 2 of you start another thread to moan ans whine, the op just asked for a time scale nothing else. Let he who is without sin etc. Let us just stick to the original question which I believe has been answered and face the fact that the cameras would not be such a good money maker if people stuck to the speed limit wherever they may be, mind you it's easy for me to say that as we don't have speed limits :D

Own up you were speeding and don't want to face the music!!!:p

BTW they allow a certain % over to allow for speedometers which are not always 100% correct.
