Cat Food? What's cheap and good?

I've been feeding my cats on Whiskas pouches, the chicken and turkey as the lady I got them from said they had sensitive stomachs.
I got some cans of Kitekat as they were half price!
Well, I opened one today and read the tin and it says chicken flavour! Flavour? I was amazed.
So, inspired by the similar thread for dogs. What's good and cheap? Not dried, they don't like it!
Any suggests welcomed.:D

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

'Classic' in tins has good quality ingredients, is low carb and isn't expensive. My two quite enjoy Sainsburys own pouches in jelly, they used to call 'Paws' but now are called, simply, 'chunks in jelly'. Tinned Whiskas in jelly isn't too bad; my two only like the original, pink tinned 'Whiskas Supermeat' which stinks horribly. Variety seems to be the key to success with cats; tinned food one day, a pouched something the next, and perhaps a homecooked meat treat a few times a week. A small amount of raw (if they like it) or partially cooked 'special offer' meat isn't expensive to provide.0

My 4 cats love the 'classic' tins in MrT's. They are their discount brand I think but must be one of the dearer ones dumbed down a bit. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Thanks for the tips, I'll look out for the Sainsbury's. Where do you get the Classic? (opps, Pen's post above, answered!)
I do feed them cooked chicken once twice a week but they really love ham but I can't give them too much as it doesn't agree with them.
Nor me, as I have to clean up the mess. _pale_But if ever I stray from the path I follow

i use sainsburys own brand, usually whatever is on offer, just started using the foil packs as they actually work out cheaper than pouches and are the same size at 100g0

Have a look at the ingredients on most tins/ pouches... most of them only have on 4% meat/ meat derivatives in them!
So I don't buy them for my boy - he gets the ones that are a minimum of 70% meat.
Also make sure that the food you are giving them is "complete" - it should say that in the blurb on the back to ensure that your puddy tat is getting all the required nutrients.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
I normally feed my 3 Felix pouches, they're usually on offer somewhere, but at the moment they're on Iams pouches, as on offer in Pets at Home for £10 for 48!0

Thank you for reminding us all - the food must state 'a complete food'...
A pouch food I discovered recently (only from our pet food store, not the supermarket) is 'Nature's Menu'. My two really tuck into the beef variety, it is 70% real meat and they clearly agree...........!0 -
Aldi pouches get gulped up in our house . Aldi foils are not so well liked but do get ate 85% of the time .
Morrisons often do good multiple buys on Sheba little tins (one with whole prawns in a fav) and little posh tins of Gourmet . always clean bowl with these .
Seafood Platter Tin from Morrisons has whole fish tails in and always gets woofed down . good for a special treat .
buy Felix or the other major brands when they come on good offers which they often do .
Asda own always get left which defeats the money saving . Better to pay a few pence extra and it get eaten .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
feline fayre can be bought at morrisons/asda, and the black packages are complete. i think they are about 44p each? the cheaper, light blue ones arent complete though... so make sure to check.
hi-life is also available at morrisons/asda/tesco and most of them are complete as well - but you have to make sure you check as there are so many varieties!
you can also get bozita online - although it is about a pound a carton, there is much more per carton then per pouch.
i think PAH also do a wet complete food which is pretty cheap as well - the purely range?0 -
Do you want cheap? Or cheap and good? Sorry, not meaning to offend but with the exception of those mentioned by Bethie, all the foods mentioned are god awful. Cats need meat, the more the better, not rice, cerials etc.
Have a look at Bozita, 395g cartons for about 90p each and it's 93% meat. Can be ordered online or maybe your local pet shop can order it in.
pets at homes purely range has a hight meat content and is often on offer.
Feline fayre,
hilife
both of those are often available in home bargains and b and m for 19p each, if you're close to one of those.
The vasy majority of commercial foods are handy bags of meat flavoured fillers. Felix, iams, go cat, whiskas etc should all be avoided with super huge barge poles.Sigless0
