OP - if you have two long tables and sit at one of them, the people on the other table are going to be wondering what they've said to annoy you..................

we are having a top table as in the correct people being sat at it & differently decorated, but its a round table were having! I dont like the idea of us all lined up and only being able to talk to those at either side of me.

Thank you for all the messages and the support!! We are hoping the venue might have enough tables so that we can push them altogether so its like one big banquet table (like my friends had) - going to phone them tomorrow - fingers crossed. Yeah we'll stick our ground - it did put them on the back foot when I mentioned my dad so I'll mention it again if I have to!0

Yes that's my worry about the two long tables...its like the A and B table. Hope we can fit everyone on one long table (about 70 people so quite a long table)0

i didnt one either just wanted me oh and are 2 kids but then when we booked i mentioned this (again) to oh and he said he does want one -even though theres only his mum on it and all the rest my family! then my mum chirped in and said yes ahve one-"o ok so you dont mind being seated to my dad then?" its driving me mad coz oh doesnt want to sat 'on his own' so now im feeling tight if i split my dad and his wife and son up and then my mum and her bf! aggghhhhhhhh so i so feel for you on this but i would speak up and say YOU dont want it because your dad isnt there with you xxMarrying the love of my life May19th 2012

OP - you could resolve the issue by having two long tables and a sweetheart table where you and your new husband will sit.
I think you need to explain why you don't want a tradtional top table and that there will still be a focal point for speeches - most venues these days have a cordless microphone and the person giving the speech tends to stand up anyway.0 -
Yeah I was a bit confused about the need for a focal point for speeches cos the people doing speeches will stand up anyway!0

And then you have the problem of people who are sitting at the far ends of the table wondering what they've done to annoy you

This is what we're having, for exactly the same reason! All round tables, including the 'top' table.:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0
